About two weeks ago when a good wind came through it pulled the whole screw and insert out of the brick mortar, and wanted to know some ideas about getting it to stay back in there? Silicone? Mortar? and no it wont just go back in there and stay the hole is completely stripped out.

seriousely i would look into may trying a pop rivet, or just get a bigger screw to fit the hole. I would be careful with any expanding concrete bolts as that may crack your motar to the bricks. even the pop rivet I would be careful with.

thats what was already in there and it pulled it out so i need something to fill in and adhere to the insert and the mortar

Be sure and use the ones that are about 1 & 1/2 - 2 inches long. Also, try a bigger size diameter, and screw it in tight. I've never had a set of shutters come down from brick when using these. Just make sure the lags don't slip forward any while you're screwing them into the wall. Consider adding a middle row of anchors if they just had one near each corner. I'm sure there is a correct sized diameter screw to properly expand the anchors. The screw needs to be long enough to pass all the way through the anchor. Don't forget to allow for the thickness of the shutter too. Do you have access to a hammer drill? Makes it much easier to drill through the brick mortar if you need to enlarge, or drill new holes.

Another thing you could use is a wooden dowel in the hole, then drive a 3 inch deck screw into the same hole. Try something like a 5/16 inch hole, with a 1/4 inch dowel, then install deck screw. Or size the dowel to fit the hole you've already got in the brick mortar. Push the dowel all the way in the hole until you hit the back of the Sheetrock, then just break the dowel off in the hole.


You could also use the "Acme" shutter hinges. They're cast iron which is brittle and will crack in half if you've got uneven brick mortar and screw them in too tightly. You'll need to chip any sloppy brick mortar out of the way. I would "fix" them in position by way of an over sized shutter dog bracket screwed down tightly against the shutter and brick wall. Use a 1/2 inch lag shield to hold the shutter dog bracket in place. If you can find these items pre-painted, use those. If not, spray two coats of gloss black spray paint before you install them, or else they will have rusted before you wake up the next morning. Secure them with Tapcon screws or lag shields.

Yep, or some of that PL Premium adhesive. That schit will adhere oil and gas. Just don't get any on your hands. Takes at least 2-3 weeks to wear off. Can't wash it off. Use one of the two to set your anchors.

put sum golf tees in holes may take two or three to feel hole then put liquid nails on back of shutters put 3 inch screws in hole should hold up for u

+1 on the F26, squirt some in hole, insert new anchor, let dry, you'll tear out the mortar to get it out.

I agree with cdw 13, that will work temporarily in a pinch.
