I am interested in painting my 1652 G3 which is currently olive drab. I would like to maybe sand it down and put another coat of olive drab and then i have some leave and tree stencils to paint on also. What do i need to do to prepare it and what kinda paint would you suggest? any information would be helpful thanks trey

There's some stuff called "self-etching primer" you can pick up at a boat store. You wash the boat off with something rough to clean it off really good, then put the self-etching primer on it. Then paint it.

There's another way to do it by sanding and using muriatic acid but that sounded like to much work for me, so I couldn't tell you what all is involved in that.

I painted mine a couple of years ago and it has held up great. I roughed up the paint that was on it and then washed it real good and let it dry. Then I sprayed on some Duralux dead grass green paint and that's it.

I had an old painter tell me I ought to wash a boat in vinegar before painting.
