Which is better in your experience, Husqvarna or Stihl? I have been using a Stihl Farmboss that is a buddy of mine's that has no use for it but would like to get my own. I like the stihl and have had no troubles. I have always thought they are the best. However, if you watch some of these logging shows that are on HC or DC, they seem to use more husqvarnas than anything else and they do this for a living.

grandpa always ran a stihl, dad always ran a stihl, i will more than likely run a poulan..HA HA get a stihl and don't look back. Never seen a stihl not finish what it started.

+1 only issue i ever have with my stihl is it will flood perdy easy, other than that it's a hoss.

When you look at what these logging contractors are running you also have to take into consideration the deal they got. Some guys are brand loyal, but some guys will run whoever gives them the best deal on price, and service. Most of the contractors my dad worked with when he was in the logging industry ran stihl, but there were a few guys that ran husky every now and again. Only difference most of them noted was that the huskys ran at a little higher rpm and cut faster. Unless you're cutting large volume that wouldn't make that much of a difference. As far as just working around the homestead I would think that either would do the job. I'd just go with the dealer that had the better service reputation myself.

My stihl has been a workhorse after multiple hurricanes. Can't say enough about it. It WILL flood, until you get the cranking sequence down. Then its good to go.

My dad ran a stihl when we used to cut firewood growing up in WV. I have 2 husky's though. We've cut wood together and you can't tell a big difference.

Point- Which one is on sale?

Go to a golf course, landscape, or logger shop and see what they use. I will put my paycheck on it that 98% use sthil. I have been using sthil since I started working on golf courses in 1999 and thats all I will ever use. Heck only power tool I use is sthil products

I hate cranking my stihl. Floods and I don't really know how to stop it. Still wouldn't trade it.

I think they're both at the top end of the market. We've run stihls for years to heat the house. My neighbor, who cut wood to put himself through college, runs a husqvarna. They'll both git r done. This is the first I've heard of floodin problems with the stihls.

They key to cranking a saw to keep it from flooding is to pull 1-2x on full choke and then swith to half choke or no choke. I dont ever recall one flooding out unless its been riding across a golf course upside down on a trailer full of limbs.

I just finished using 25 year old Husky about an hour ago...it still cranks right up and will run through some wood. My dad and I have cut many a firelog with that saw.

Both are great saws! The Stihl will flood if you don't know how to properly start it. It has always seemed to me like the Husquvarna was several lbs heavier and bulkier. Personally partial to a stihl been using one since i was about ten years old and depended on one to make a living more than a couple times over the years.

I am a Stihl man. Everything I have owned has been Stihl. That being said, I borrowed 8 chainsaws from a friend of mine in the tree trimming business right after Katrina to go cut my relatives out(they dont own anything power realted). We had Stihls, Poulans, and Husqvarna's. I will say that the Husqvarna's ran alot better while cutting all day, every day for a week. One thing to consider is if you want something to last, dont buy the residental models...farm boss included. Buy a commercial grade model and buy the biggest engine size you can afford and handle.
