Me and a couple buddies are planning an elk hunting trip next year and just wondering if any of you guys have gone and what kind of hard ware did you take and what kind of loads did you shoot. im looking at buying a remington model 700 in a 7 mag. im pretty fond of the remingtons but open to anything that yall think might be a better choice.

If I was going I would buy either a Remington or Seko in .338. Flat shooting round with incredible knock down power out to incredible distances.

Although my weapon of choice for elk would be a Hoyt.....

Remington 700 in 7 Mag. is perfect.

I've only archery hunted for elk, but I videoed my dad take a pretty nice bull with my 7mag. We experimented with tons of hand loads and couldn't find anything that was really performing like he wanted it to so he wound up hunting with the 139 gr Hornady factory load that I deer hunt with. Dropped his elk in it's tracks at over 500 yds!

I think some state require a min of 27 caliber (or at least used to). If I was gonna go I would take my 7mm08 and my 35 Whelen.

I've been working on my 7mag 700 for a while. I've never shot an elk but if was fixin to I'd get some good accurate ammo. Emphasis on accurate. Every gun shoots different loads better than others.
A bonded bullet would be ideal but lots of elk have been taken with regular bullets. Often times the bonded bulllets are not the most accurate. Sierra, Berger, Nosler partition are all good
Barnes TTSX or TSX are solids that will penetrate
Nosler Accubond, Barnes MRX, and Hornady Interbond are all good bonded bullets.

Get a good sling maybe a second swivel for a bipod. Depends on the type of country you will be hunting.

I also believe in breaking a barrel in so make sure you do that. There are several really good gunsmiths around that can help fix any problems. I've had a new barrel, different trigger, bedding, more bedding, shim stock, and the action trued just to get mine to shoot like I want it.

Browning 30-06 all you need. 150 gr drops 'em in their tracks.

Am I reading that the bullet shot was a 64 grain bullet?

168 grain bullet with 64 grains Reloader-22 powder I think........

Remington Model 700 .300 Ultra Mag with a 180 grain bullet......will drop anything in North America and to way out there.

I will make someone a great deal on a barely used Remington CDL .338 Win Mag!
