How does the Nissan 25hp 2 stroke stack up against the other manufactures? I'm thinking about buying an 2002 Model that I've come across and don't know anything about the Nissan outboards.

im not positive about the 2002 models but if i were going to buy a new 25hp motor i would either get the mercury, nissan or tohatsu.
these three are the exact same motor, made on the exact same assembly line.
just buy whichever you can find a better price and warranty on.

If Nissans and Tohatsus will hold up to a Delta seining crew, they are tough. That's about all they use around here (well, back when we had lots of fish ponds).

The engine block is the same but nothing else about the mercury is. Nissan and Tohatsu are pretty good motors till something breaks on em. All the commercial industry went to em because of the price. They are a "plain jane" motor. They don't have a lot of gadgetry to go wrong. They more or less were spare parts motors. They were billed as "throw away" motors by the fish seining people. Run em like hell till something major tears up on em then throw em away and get another one. Good concept and served the industry well. Unless they have gotten better in the last few years you still can't get any major parts for em or find someone to work on em. But they are hell when they are well!

I think you would be happy with a 25 Nissan. Small block motor, it's hard to beat. Larger motors, I would have a different opinion.

I have a 02 30hp nissan with jackplate on my 1440 talk about getting it! Only thing I have torn up is I burned up a bearing in the lower unit because of a broke seal and all the lower unit draining out. It's not hard finding parts, every boat motor place here in natchez can order parts or you can order them on the internet. DAMN GOOD MOTORS!
