I have been duck hunting for about 13 years. In the beginning it was all public land for me, however since my two boys have become old enough to hunt I decided to find a lease. The first land I leased was 4 years ago a friend of mine found north of Greenwood. We killed a good many ducks, but because of low finances due to building a house I was unable to get back in the lease the next year. My wife also loves to duck hunt and usually hunts every weekend of the season along with me. That means that there is usually 4 of us hunting at all times, me, my wife, and my 9 and 12 year old son. I had taken my wifes uncle and cousin duck hunting a few years ago and they were hooked. They have been wanting to lease some land every since. We found some land this summer in Greenwood. It looked good. It had a 100 acre cypress slew and bean fields with a 1600gpm pump. The only catch was that it was part of a deer lease and the guy was subleasing this part I didn't think it would be a big deal. He agreed that they would not hunt this spot during the mornings, only evenings on one side of the place. Since there were only 3 of us leasing it was a pretty good chunk of cash. Well we finished the season out with 7 total ducks killed off the place. This place held NO ducks. There was constant traffic in and out of the place by the deer hunters. I had to replace the battery on the pump and we finally got water in the fields by the third weekend of season. It was a nightmare. I feel like a total dumbarse for even leasing the place. Needless to say I will NEVER sub lease from a deer hunting club. Also I am in the market for the 09-10 season.
I guess its like they say, the best experience is bought experience. I hope I get what I paid for cause it wasn't cheap.
