Got a cousin that lives in wiggins that is an Electrical Engineer. Graduated from ole miss in 2007 and hasnt been able to land a job doing what he went to school for. Hes looking for anything from the coast to jackson and possibly around the oxford area. Im just putting some feelers out to see if anyone knows of anything available. Great guy and a hard worker, he just needs the chance to get his foot in the door somewhere to get some experience. Thanks

Lot of design and build projects going on with the coast rebuild(water & sewer systems). Has he tried the big A&E firms in Jackson that do work down there? Try Pickering,Waggonner,Neil Schaeffer, etc. Also some local utilities are always looking for entry level engineering interns.

Hate to say it, but problem #1 that he got an engineering degree from Ole Miss. Did he co-op? What kind of experience does he have?

+1 ~ Most Companies do not consider Ole Miss an engineering pool to hire from - same as the U of A. Not saying the UM & UA Eng grads aren't capable...jus sayin' they're Eng School ranks pretty low. The other problem is that many companies are on a hiring freeze @ this point in time. Who knows when those freezes will thaw.

Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg needs electrical engineers badly. Announcements are going out weekly for all types of engineers. Keep looking on USAJOBS.

I am an engineer from ole miss and graduated recently and got a job. Don't think it has much to do with the school anymore. That is a thing of the past and I know of tons of big wig bosses that are ole miss alumni. Personally I would prefer ole miss over state because of the small classes and good relationship with the professors. Just my 0.02...

Congrats on the job....

The real test of an engineering school is whether or not Exxon or Chevron recruit there. Do Exxon and/or Chevron recruit Ole Miss?

I agree that once you get "in the door" where you went to school doesn't mean $#!+. I like my chances of "getting in the door" better at State. That's just me. Matter of fact it got me "in the door".
