Jug Fishing?

Postby Don Miller » Tue May 20, 2003 8:27 am

I am going to Sardis Lake this weekend and was thinking about jug fishing in the lower lake at night next to the camp grounds. I haven't jug fished in years and it was on the MS River. Does anyone jug fish on lakes this time of year or would I be wasting my time to try it?

Don just got back from the Arkie river this past weekend, and while we wasn't dodging 'nators, lightning, and such we did fair. I like a slow rise but water got to coming up too quick. I don't how the shad situation is on Sardis but we caught shad and used cut bait. We did net one small bream, and I tail hooked him and caught a pretty good flathead. Other than that it was all channels and blues. We did have one that we never put our eyes on, and we looked liked Capt Quint trying to run Jaws down. Must have been a damn good one!! If you want my jug set-up PM me. Pretty inexpensive and works like a charm!!!

Went this past weekend, & 3 weeks ago. Did Fair on channels on Med shiners, bout 4-5 feet. We put in @ hurricane landing. BUT, the upper lake was up about 10 feet, last Friday. Headed back in a couple of weeks to try agian. Just remember, if it's runnin, not bobbin, get your paddle - it's a gar..

jug fishin

Postby Mudbug » Tue May 20, 2003 3:40 pm

Sardis (Main Lake) is a great place to do some jug fishin.... BUT, law says NO jug fishin on the lower lake. Check the regs. I learned that the hard way. Good luck, let us know how you do.

I just looked at the jug fishing regs on Sardis Lake and it states that jugs must be attended (within sight of fisherman) during daylight hours. Does this mean that jug fishing is not allowed at night on Sardis Lake?
