question for the game wardens on here

Me and a couple buddies hunted Noxubee yesterday morning. When we came out and were checking our birds we had them all on one hanger. We had 7 woodies between us and when he asked how many birds we killed each we weren't really sure because a couple of them one or two of us were shooting. Anyways, the game warden tells us that we should each keep our birds seperate because we could get a ticket for puttin them all together. Maybe I'm just ignorant but I've never heard of this. So, question is...Is it illegal to put multiple peoples birds together? and how should we handle this when using a dog thats gonna bring all the birds to the same person?

you must have birds separated. seen people get tickets for not having them separated while and hunting and walking out.

If you walk out of the break with a stringer with 7 ducks on it you can be ticketed for overthe limit, even if you only shot two of them. Same deal if you are leaving the dove field with several people's birds. It all depends on how much of a hardarse the warden in. I'd guess that if one guy carried out a three man limit all on seperate stringers that he could be ticketed as well. Worst case senario.

You must always keep your birds seperate at all times. Now you may get away with it with a lenient warden but he can and will write you a ticket. Another thing to remember. There is no such thing as being one duck over the limit! You will have 7 illegal ducks! And can be fined as such per bird too! Once you exceed your daily limit everything in your possesion becomes illegal! Another reason for keeping them seperate! (Senario) 6 of ya hunting together, all your ducks in 1 pile. Fed walks up to check you and there are 37 birds in the pile. All 6 of you get a ticket for 37 illegal birds! That's just how it works!

Two interesting facts here:
1)All seven ducks are illegal
2)Everyone in the party gets a ticket for 37 illegal ducks
What if there were 35 ducks in that pile. Would everyone get a ticket for 35 ducks pursuant to #1. 29 birds over the limit is 29 birds over the limit.
Sure would shed some poor light on GW.

What's actually illegal about 6 of the 7 ducks in this example? That doesn't even make sense?

They are in your posession and you are illegal with 7. Therefore they are all illegal and will be confiscated as evidence! As far as the 35 in the pile instead of 37? Yes you could still be given a ticket for "party hunting"

Posession limit. After learning the hard way, I make sure everyone in my group has a stringer. We might pile them up which still is illegal but atleast you can identify "your birds" rather or not you shot them. This seems to be a pretty common ticket issued to educate folks. You can only have the legal limit in your posession.

I've always been told to be really legal you not only need the birds separated but each stringer identified with the hunter's name, license number, etc.

Get a dog collar with your name on it. Each person wrap their collar around their ducks and put 'em in the truck/ranger/pile. When GW ask who killed what, there will be no doubt. Have seen a warning given when two guys had ducks in back of the truck and did not have them identified as to who's was whose. Easy to slip the collar over the necks and cinch it tight, name tag right there on it, done, zip, zero questions.

An easy solution to this is too write your name on one side of you duck strap and on the other side write "Guest". When I was guiding I did this and got checked by a Fed on more than one occasion and they were cool with it. I use the neoprene straps and just write it on the inside with a sharpie. At that time I had "Client #1" & "Client #2". I carried three straps and they were numbered all the way to 6.
Just be sure hand you ducks up right. If you accidentaly put one to many woodies on a strap then it would be a ticket for who ever is using that strap.

So, question is...Is it illegal to put multiple peoples birds together? and how should we handle this when using a dog thats gonna bring all the birds to the same person?............you could be the perfect gentleman and take turns shooting,and then there is no question, or do the good ole boy-"cut'em when they are just above the decoys(our method)....most of the time you are pretty sure who got a bird, but agreed sometimes it's unclear. but whatever the case, ASAP it's best to string up everybody's limit seperate, each guy walks out with his own, if someone's wife is hatching a baby and needs to leave his birds with you to transport out,they should label personel info,describe limit of birds,date and sign(and even then this might be contested)...and at the truck- each should label as above stated...if cleaning the birds in the field or at camp,leave a wing on to ID, package each limit or partial limit seperate with date,personel info as above stated......what did i leave out guys?
