45/70 sighting in question

I was thinking about putting a scope on my 45/70, but am having secong thoughts. Most of my shots will be 100 yards or less with 60-80 yards being most common. My question is though if I shoot at 100 yards or so with those open sights should I allow for the bullet to drop and aim a bit higher or just hold dead on. I am shooting Hornady lever revolution ammo in 325 grain.

used the same shells sighting one in today. think the box says 2" high at 100, would be 4" or so low at 200. wouldn't think it would be much difference 0-80yrds if dead on around 100. hot round though...knock the shat out of me.

You know if you don't put a scope on it your gonna have the buck of your life walk out at 200 yards from you..

My box says 3 inches high at 100 and 4 inches low at 200. That being said there wasn't much drop at all between 25 and 100 when i sighted in yesterday.

Hold it at the top of the shoulder and fire away. The biggest reason I don't shoot iron sights anymore is the light gathering capabilities of riflescopes. I didn't have a scope on a M1A or my 45/70. I sold the M1A and got one for the 4570 (even with the shorter sight radius I still had problems). With no scope it is hard to pick up the front sight when it gets dark. you loose about 30min of hunting time. I like to shoot irons but to maximize my rifles I use scopes on almost all of them.

Wear some shoulder pads if you are going to sight it in today. Most modern day white men are too small for this type of firearm.

putting one on mine today...nikon prostaff w/bdc...using the weaver see through mounts so i can still use iron sights if possible.

I still don't understand why so many people think this gun kicks! I guess I'm 98 percentile compared to most modern day white men
