I have never hunted flooded timber until the other day and did not have any luck. I was wondering how to go about hunting flooded timber. I was told not to use decoys but thought that was not a good idea. Just need some tips. THANKS

Find the ducks in the timber and hunt away. I would strongly suggest decoys, maybe not 10 dozen but a few. However I hunt in a place that hasn't had trees in it in over 25 years, so may want to ask other people about this.

Of course you could do it the easy way and wait for the shooting to start run over, GPS and bird dog the guys the next day.

Was it cloudy? I hear different things about this but IMO ducks are less likely to come to flooded timber when cloudy v/s a clear day. BTW use decoys

-make love to the tree your standing beside and keep your face down
-keep the water moving
-when your calling and working birds, call smart. make the wind play just as much of a factor as your call when you are calling. timing is VERY important
-if you dont see any mallards flyin by 8 30 dont pack up, look up! this is the best time to kill them in the woods.

Ain't nothing wrong with a little gaddie action in a timber hole. I'd take my limit of gaddies and walk out smiling.

In the timber holes I have hunted it is usually good or bad. One weekend great, the next so so, then the next good.. Same set up, same weather conditions.. Sometimes you never know.. when they will show up or not.

You have to find where the birds are....you cant just go out in any flooded timber and expect to kill birds.....blow the duck call and Kick the hell out of the water......5 and 7 Baby......

Once you have had a great Green Timber hunt you will not want to hunt anywhere else...
