The last weekend for the Mighty Gobblers

Just wondering how many have gotten the limit this year? To me this has been on of the better years for turkeys that i have seen since the early 90's. I have one left and I saw him this morning. I just hope i havent waited to late!

I agree w/ you Long Spur. I have seen more birds this year then I have in a long time. I have limited out in 3 diff. states so far. I guess the NWTF is doing pretty good. I have had birds on me every time I have hunted this year. I don't know if it is luck or if I'm just getting good. ha ha. Smallest bird for me this year was a 6.5 inch beard. He kinda got in the way that afternoon. Hope next year is as good.

Got the limit also. Seemed like birds were everywhere this year.

Limited out early. Been "guiding" for a friend.

The past two weeks have sucked in our area. I know the birds are there but they are not gobbling. Anyone else seeing this? Are they through already?

They have been running the throats.........but not for long. It seems as if as soon as they hit the ground they stop gobblen'.

I can feel your pain man. I'm having the same problem. Furthermore, I haven't even heard one gobble at Tallahala. Ya'll don't know of a cheap guide hunt anywhere do you?

I'm new to this game, but I'm thinkin' big gobblers let the 2-year-olds do all the work in findin' the hens (including most of the gobbling), late in the season. One of 2 things 'gonna happen......1) the 2-year-old gets whacked (which is why the big bird has learned to keep his mouth shut) or 2) the hen shows-up and the big bird runs the 2-year-old off and takes his girlfriend.

'Sounds like ya'll have shot-out your 2-year-olds and educated the rest.

'Got this 2-year-old bird around the house that won't shut-up. He musta covered 12 miles between 7:30 and 9:30 this morning, chokin' on himself.......'bout every 90 seconds, I'd say. None of the other gobblers (even the jakes) around here have been very vocal like ya'll said, though. 'Wonder what his problem is?

'Think my wife and I'll go sit under his tree in the morning. 'Ain't gonna kill him 'cause we wouldn't be able to enjoy hearing him cut-up every morning, then. (I coulda killed this particular bird 4 times already. In fact, he was standing 3 feet from the one I killed two weeks ago).

Limit? Naw....I wasn't gonna shoot 2-year-olds this year........and damn if I didn't whack one in a rookie moment. So, my season's over.....I'm trying to exercise some restraint and let these birds get bigger. Maybe one o' these days, I'll get a really nice bird if I can manage to develop a little more patience. That seems to be the hardest part of learning to be a turkey hunter, but I really love this game!

I was hunting in Carroll Co. this last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We had no luck. No birds gobbling at all. The big boy got whacked a week ago. He had a 10 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs. It was more of an ambush on him than a hunt. I thought that the 2 year olds would be running their mouth, but not so. Well maybe next year. Jack

I finally got my first gobbler ever on Saturday up here in Dickson County. 9 and 1/2 inch beard; 1 inch spurs; weighed at least 20 lbs (12.5 pounds cleaned). He did not gobble at all and simply walked across a pretty long field to my decoy. A few purs and clucks and one yelp so that a nearby hen that yelped in the woods wouldn't distract him from my decoy. 30 yard shot. It was a great hunt with a good buddy doing the calling for me.

Fried him up last night and it was good eatin'. We have one more weekend up here and I'll be out there. If I get another, fine - but if I don't, no big deal.

Strange thing about this year, I never killed anything above a three year old. I know there were plenty of 2 yr. olds left last year, and the year before. The old long spurs just never came my way.

It has been a very good year, except for the lack of age!!

Called up a good turkey, for a friend of mine on Derr plantation Sat. morning. Only turkey we heard. (on his side of the posted sign).

What is it about posted land??? They always seem to gobble louder, and longer over there !!!

I didn't know there was posted land during turkey season. Not around here anyway. If I hear him gobble......I won't be far from him no matter where he is. Call me what you want......I just can't stand sitting somewhere listening to a turkey gobble over the ridge or acroos the river on someone else. I will be sneeking.

I will have to agree w/ you there Dusucks. Nothing is more aggrivating than hearing a bird gobble not far from where you sit up. I have plenty of land to hunt, but if one gobbles across the creek or river, I'm going to it. I don't know where you hunt Dusucks, but there normally isn't many turkey hunters in my area. Which is a plus for me. But I will get on 'em no matter what it takes.
