I was in the mean mallard on Monday evening (4-21-03), to pick up some items I had special ordered on (2-1-03). An employee named Josh, I believe was his name, told me that himself or any one else, for that matter, did not have a clue where my order was. Keep in mind that my order was prepaid. I asked him what the deal was with my order and all the non-organization, he said that he was not going to be working there after Friday. After that, another employee said that Friday was her last day as well. I then asked; why? They said that the Mean Mallard was in the process of being sold, hesitated a moment, then said well someone might be interested in it, or the doors could possibly be shut. So to answer your question, yes it is for sale, if you want to call it that. If someone was to buy it now, they would have a lot of clutter to go through, that place is a mess. All I want is my prepaid 50 dollar order. I doubt, at this point, I will ever see it.

Sounds like a raw deal Hawg!

Did anyone ever attempt to straighten out your order?

Sounds to me like something is about to happen in J'son! Wonder if the big boys really are coming in?

Funny how that happened Hawg when all you ever get from most folks is how great it is to have such a high quality store like MM in Jackson.

I for one hate to see them close simply because they are a specialty shop.
Too rich for my blood, Customer service was well below average in the past. But none the less was a good store for people that wants to shop somewhere besides Walley World.

Still it sounds like customer service hasn't changed much. My guess is that the overhead and loss of customers is more a factor than someone buying them out. But then I could be wrong, I hear Hudsons buy out stock all the time.

I was in there today, and they were wheeling and dealing on everything in sight. Looked a mess. They claimed that they were not closing. Who knows?

Insiders at the Mallard say it is definitely for sale. The reason varies depending on who's version you hear. There are supposedly two people interested in buying it and keeping it open. We'll see who wins.If it's a win to get the place anyway.

Word is Rankin County  better growth rate, the retail demographics for Rankin county should keep it away from Jackson. This area is still central to Meridian, Hattiesburg, Vicksburg However Monroe, La is also in the mix.

I think the best we are going to be able to do is the acadamy sports in Gulfport. At least they have decent prices on shells and fishing stuff.

if it is sold it may be for the better. when they first opened in ridgeland I thought it was a first class store ran right. I wanted a simple sling for my gun and a worker was bending over backwards to assist me with my purchase. the next four trips, the store proved the opposite. I actually hate that because they really had the protential to be a good store. myself and about eight other people I know will never shop there again because of the way we were treated and their service.

It is for sale for a mere $2.5 Million. Sorry but I don't think the established business or what's left of the stock is worth that. I'm not sure but I don't even think he owns the building. Speed has sure let the store go down in the last year and I don't think he'll ever recoup. A good source told me that reps were flocking to the store to get payment on merchandise or the merchandise itself, what's left of it.
