any body fishing?

Postby DeltaCotton12 » Wed Oct 08, 2008 8:29 pm

Hey guys, I recently bout a boat, and a buddy and I have taken up fishing. We've been fishing at the oktibbeha county lake. I was wondering if A, anyone has or does fish out there and B, if anyone is fishing ANYWHERE, where should I be looking for these jokers.

Past two days we have been fishing structure and Lilly pads. Throwing spinners, worms and Flippin jigs. We are having no luck.

what are we doing wrong?

Any input is greatly appreciated. And if anyone would like to fish around stark, give me a shout.

As fall approaches and water temps go down, the bass will chase the shad up into the backs of creeks. Throw a shad immitation shallow to medium running crankbait such as a rattle trap when they have them hemmed up in the backs of creeks/coves.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

The only two fish I have caught were crappie fishing. I'll give the cranks and rattle traps a shot tomorrow afternoon. Would I be throwing towards the bank and reeling back, or should I be throwing down the bank?

Also, should I be looking for structure and Lilly pads?

This time of year I troll or jig deep water, try pulling crankbaits, its fun once you figure the math out, but I still prefer trolling w/ a christmas tree rig but the crankbait is just another option. I prefer jigging in the pre and post spawn the most though. Although the fall and spring are great times to fish, if you can tolerate the wind and semi moderate temps, try trolling in the dead of the winter. Greenheadgrimreaper and I wore them out last winter, we would duck hunt in the morning, go home swap boats and go crappie fishing

Been crappie fishing and doing pretty good. Caught them at Grenada the past couple of weeks. Now Lake Washington is the hot spot with limits being caught.

If your in starkville then you should ride over to the Tenn Tom in Columbus and fish the cuts and up Tibbee Creek. I've been catching alot of fish in the cuts where the bigger creeks dump into the river. I fish the Gainesville pool which is two locks down from Columbus. Mostly carolina rig, shakey head, and crankbaits, but I did catch some better fish on a frog the other day.

Best thing about fishin in the fall and winter is not too many folks are doing it. Most everyone else is either footballin or deer campin.

Good luck

fishing at the oktibbeha county lake for one!!! :!: :!: :!:
I have fished this lake for many yrs AND NEVER caught anything worth catching! It is the biggest piece of crap lake ever! Go to the Tenn Tom. If you insist on fishing OCL then park your boat at the point leading to the small lake. Walk up into the woods and there is a pond in there that has some OK fish. It used to be owned by OCL, but I think I remember them saying that it was sold.

i just purchased a shallow and medium depth crank bait. i also bought a shallow-medium depth rattler.. i"ll try and work the shallows ans see what produces. I also have a map of the underwater creek channel. I've heard that working that creek channel is a great idea this time of year as well.. any input?

Don't waste your time out there. Lost Lake at the refuge can be good if you hit it right
