Couple of Nashville questions
Couple of Nashville questions
1) What would be the best way to get there from Vicksburg. Yahoo maps says go to Memphrica then go up. I wonder how long it would take to take the Trace up there.
2) I will be doing my second triathlon up there. This is the one I have been training for all summer. So since I have eaten like a mouse this summer I am treating myself to the biggest fattest juiciest steak I kind find Sat. night. Some au gratin potatoes sound dang good too. So I know all you fat boys know the best places to eat n the south so point me in the right direction.

Re: Couple of Nashville questions
Memphrica may be the fastest way since you can run interstate the entire way.
The other way would be to take I-20 to Birmingham and then up I-65.

Re: Couple of Nashville questions
Taking the Trace will add about 2 hours to your trip, but the ride is awsome. As far as eating, there is a J Alexanders on West End that is out of this world as is Landrys, also on West End Ave. Both are top notch.
If you go to J Alexanders, the onion Rings are the bomb, as is the burbon.
If you want a nice quiet brew pup Boscos is on Hillsboro Ave (21st) inside the loop.
Good Luck

I haven't eaten at Old Hickory but I can attest to Stoney River; mighty good eats there pilgrim.
Re: Couple of Nashville questions
I might have to check out old hickory being that I will be swimming in Old Hickory lake that morning. Hopefully I will survive.

Duckdawg10 what one would you recommend b/w old hickory and stoney river. Also there may be 6 of us all total so I am not sure if that would sway the decision making process.

Jimmy Kelly's steakhouse near Vanderbilt. Located in an old home and the bread for appetizers are corncakes (much like pancakes about the size of a silver dollar). Many of the restaurants previously listed are very good, however, most are franchises. I travel quite a bit and I prefer to find the "famous local places." Jimmy Kelly's is famous in Nashville - much like Folks Folley in Memphis, or the Bright Star in Bessemer, AL.
Son, be sure to check the oil. The gas will take care of itself. George Carter - Circa 1965

Re: Couple of Nashville questions
Jimmy Kelly's is good, but if you strictly want the best steak in Nashville go to The Stockyard-expensive but worth it.

Re: Couple of Nashville questions
I forgot about the stockyard. I like the local yocals as well, but I think the franchises here beat Jimmy Kellys. I just dont like it. Stockyard is the best, then Old Hickory then I really like the atmosphere in Stoney River. It has a great bar area and there is usually some wallet chasers in there. Where are you staying?

Re: Couple of Nashville questions
I haven't been to Jimmy Kelly's in about two years but the last time I went, it wasn't as good as it used to be. The corn cakes are still excellent though.
I'd go to The Stockyard.

Old Hickory is good but $$$$ and every thing is seperate (you don't get the whole meal for 1 price) you order steak you get steak, tater is extra salad is extra.
