And two other names to throw in the hat:

Charlie Moody of Louisville. Charlie's number is 601-779-1474

and

Glenn McElroy located just a bit farther west of Charlie in Vaiden. Glenn's number is 662-392-1096.

I'm a rank amateur, at best, but I live about 40 miles from Columbus and am looking for someone to train with, if he decides to go the do it yourself route.

QM, bunch of us ran in Nashville this weekend, and most are still on the road headed home. try that # tonight. if no luck, let me know and I'll give you another one to try.

Ronnie is this side of Louisville, sort of.. in the styx. he will be the closest/best gundog trainer that I personally know. I go over to train w/ him sometimes, and its not a bad drive.

charlie is very excellent, but has been training for and running field trials for a couple years now. I can't answer for him, but wouldn't think he is taking hunting/hunt test dogs since he isn't running them anymore. if you had a young dog, and he could somehow fit you in for basics, I'd jump ALL over it. past that, what he is training for probly wouldn't jive with your goals for your dog.

I'm sure any of the trainers mentioned would be glad to talk with you. my advice would be to decide what you want out of it, then give them a call. no harm in that. I don't know exactly what your looking for, and nobody can answer how much or how long, except for the trainer.. fwiw, many pros will be making trips north during summer months.. if you need directions from columbus to Ronnie's, shoot me a pm. I can get there, but would have to check a map for hwy #'s etc.
