Anyone catch the PBS last night about the murder of Emmet Till? I believe it was the first time aired. I got a call from a friend telling me there was a special about Tallahatchie County. I thought it would be about farming and/or duck hunting....I was way wrong.

It was a good feature. Any "old-timers" have any recollection of this?

Are there two courthouses in Tallhatchie County? Sumner and Charleston? If so, that isn't normal is it?

I saw the special too. It was well done, but hard to watch another documentary on how bad Mississippi was in the "old days."

Many Mississippi counties have two courthouses. Most of these counties have a river which splits the county in half, and thus two courthouses were needed at the turn of the century because there were few bridges across these rivers. Even after the road system and bridge/river crossings were improved, history, tradition and an unwillingness of cities with the courthouses to give them up in favor of a single courthouse has prepetuated the dual courthouse system.

I caught the special and would also like to hear from people who may have been around at that time and recall the events. Horrible event in Mississippi history.
