Same old ducks with a PHD in the delta. U know that refuge we talked about. Their are so many that they kept the water open last night.

hunted delta national this morning. It was bad, real bad. Saw about twenty woodies at daylight and thirty gadwall. That's flight birds included!!
Killed one gadwall. NO new ducks at all. All surrounding fields were empty. Stopped by my lease at valley park and talked to a group of three that killed two there. Said they only saw a couple hundred flight birds that weren't interested in the half-frozen bean field they were in.
Sure hope they come this evening or tonight.

I hunted the coldwater area this morning. We saw a few ducks at first light. They were interested in the 8 or 10 ducks that were on the water only...not us. After first light we didn't see many ducks and the ones we saw were very educated!!! Killed zero birds.

Hunted right off #3 between Marks and Falcon in a flowing ditch. Killed one teal at daylight and missed a woodie right afterwards. After about an hour or so, did not see a single group in the sky!

My theory is..that even though the temps are cold enough to lock most everyting up to the north of us, that there isn't enough snow cover to keep em from eating. I'm off next week on vacation, so I am kinda glad that the ducks weren't pushed in with the front, and will hopefully come along behind it. This way the skyblasting weekend warriors couldn't educate them before I get a crack at em. I'm gonna go deer hunting with my buddy tomorrow who's place has a bunch of doe permits, and we're gonna thin the herd out for em. I don't know what the state regs are, but it wouldn't be any trouble to go there and kill 3 or 4 does. Does anyone know if you can kill more that 1 a day (doe) with those permits? Aren't those things a special deal that don't count towards your seasonal/daily limit? I'm pretty sure that's the case....but maybe some of you know for sure one way or the other.

I've got bad news for you DD. There ain't no ducks to come. I've got contacts as far North as Rock Island, IL all the way down to Venice, LA and there ain't no ducks to come here. We have to face the facts that the population numbers are way down and actually take action and do something about it. Sure, there are enough for the lucky few to be at the right place at the right time and limit, but there is snow cover in the fields up North and temps have everything locked up and its still hit and miss. This is the year we need to take action with petitions and phone calls to preserve our sport. Who cares if Stuttgart loses a million a day, shorten the seasons, lower the bags, put WMA's on a draw, whatever it takes I'm game if it means sitting in a deer stand for a couple of years!!!

featherduster......I'm afraid you are right. I heard that the most recent survey of Arkansas showed 200,000 - 250,000 less ducks in the state compared to last year at the same time, and last years numbers were below average. Bottom line......no ducks. Something is big time wrong somewhere.
