I have a lot of weeds in my yard. it sucks. I am thinking about spraying my yard with roundup now and aerating and planting grass this spring. Good or bad idea? Tell me where I am going wrong. Any suggestions would be great..

2-4D will kill the weeds and leaves your grass alone.

if the bermuda is dormant right now, won't the roundup work?

You can spray MSMA on bermuda just about any time and it will only kill the weeds.

I wouldn't fool with Roundup because sometimes it kills things that you don't want killed and other times it won't kill things you want it to.

Roundup burns it, but it won't do the job that 2-4D will. If you want to start over from scratch, MSMA would be the ticket.

2-4-D is best used in the cooler months like now, MSMA only works when the temp is above 80 deg. Thats the way i use it.

Roundup works well now as long as the bermuda is dormant

MSMA is off the market now.

DO NOT spray round up, unless you want everything to die. However for the round up to work good you will have to wait until the grass starts to come out of dormancy. If you arent afraid to keep the water to it in the spring I say go for it, but be sure that when you spike it to go as deep as you possibly can

LAst year or year before that, EPA cut it out. If you can still find someone that has it then you can buy it but it is no longer being made. Most golf courses used it to control dallas grass and johnson grass but have since had to switch. LEt me know what type of weeds you are wanting to kill and I can tell you what chemical and what rate to spray it at

High arsenic levels, ie cancer. As if we need anymore of that. I had to do a reasearch project in a class on the benefits on prescribed burning and one topic is its use over herbicides and msma was one I touched up on as an example of the unavailabilty of herbicides on the market. Everytime you turn around one is being yanked off the market by the EPA. Although not used comercially for forestry uses it was a good example. It would surprise you what some of the things these golf courses and farming operations are pumping into the soil and what they contain. It's a good thing that msma is being removed from the market. For humans and the environment.
