Re: Refs
like i said-average ,terrible,, great,do you think they do a good job---get most of the calls correct or not....compare it to the next step up--say Jr. college---I wouldn't go any higher to compare...or make your opinion based on ,no comparison.....but at most games i have been to the stands seem to disagree a lot---just wanted to know a general public opinion
Re: Refs
hardly ever is there games when folks leave there sayin how well officals did. its harder than the avgerage joe in the stands thinks on doing that.... if someone thinks they are all awful..... go get certified(sp) and do it and you'll have a brand new respect for what they do.... thats just my two cents but from a baseball view.

Re: Refs
i think all refs do an acceptable job. Do they miss calls? Yes, but to many people have gotten carried away these days. You see people starting petitions, calling or emailing the commisioner's office, or yelling at refs at a little league game. People make mistakes, and IT IS ONLY A GAME! Lots of people need to realize that.

Re: Refs
In grad school, I worked intramurals. We all considered it a well called game when both sides complained of the Refs. Seriously.
Nobody owes you anything.
Re: Refs
If your worried about making bad calls, just move to Alabama. They don't mind.

Re: Refs
been there done that(Alabama) lol --anyway, how do i get certified?
Re: Refs
They could not pay enough for me to be a ref. I have a child that plays junior high basketball and I do not always agree with the calls but some parents take it personal if they miss/make a bad call against their child. Its all about opportunity, sportmanship and most of all its a GAME!!!!! My gosh some of these kids could be defending our country in a few years, waht are those parents going to do then. Run out there and hit the enemy with a cane and screem how dare you shoot at little johnny!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the rant but no way I could be a ref!!!

Re: Refs
I have ref'd in upwards basketball parents get a little loud, youth soccer and parents get flat out violent (had one dad follow me up and down the field holler at every call I made, so I handed him the whistle and went and sat in the stands. He stood there wiht his mouth open forever. The head honcho finally came down and asked him to stand on the other side. I would not get up until he did. This was 12 year old soccer. He had been yelling non stop for about 30 minutes. After that had no problems with parents yelling) I called a few softball tourneys a few years ago as a sub. But now my dad is a high school fast pitch ump. You want to talk about hollering it gets down right ugly.

Re: Refs
I love to see a college ref look at the instant replay and realize how stupid his call just was...saw it the other night at msu/bama game...we need refs and umps glad there are people to do it but as bad as i hated them when i played and as much as i hate bad calls now ( i know everyone makes mistakes but dang it dont make it on my team
) you could not pay me to be a ref....LET UM PLAY BOYS LET UM PLAY

Re: Refs
I know that if you get certified you can make a pretty penny with all the tournaments and such. Weekends are gone, but a littel green doesn't hurt either.
If it doesn't work out there will never be any doubt that the pleasure was worth all the pain.

Re: Refs
Look, let the kids play dammit.
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, makes me want to punch somebody more than some beer gutted dad screaming at a ref.
Dude, shut your fat out of shape mouth.
Just my two cents.

Re: Refs
I've been a soccer ref for 15 years. I've called every age group from 10 yr olds to college games. What really amazes me are that the parents, that sit in the stands 50-60 yards or farther away from the play, seem to always have a better angle of the game than the ref standing right there with the play right in front them. I guess the thing that really gets under my skin the most is when some idiot, I mean parent, yells "call it both ways ref".
