Dent's Landing at Albarmarle sold, Chotard may be next

A guy who owns a private tug boat company, I think Florida Tug Boat and Marine (?) recently bought the Dent's Landing at Albarmarle Lake. His first order of business was to kick everyone out.....EVERYONE.....That makes Albarmarle only accessable from Chotard by boat ......I am not sure of the guys name, but supposedly he is a real A hole.....he is making efforts to buy Laney's and Chotard Landing......Story I heard is that he has 600 employees, and wants to make the landings a campsite for all of them and corner the duck hunting on both lakes....The people at Chotard are very worried about this.....Dude has made reference to Jerry Johnson that if he buys Laney's and CL, that his first order is to give 30 day notices to get the hell out.....

If all this does happen, looks like only public way to access Chotard and Albamarle would be by the MS River.......would be such a shame to see all the crappie fishermen and duck hunters get screwed......

Any truth to this ? Jerry and I are old hunting buddy's. I would hate to see this happen to him . My Uncle had a place there for years until he passed back in 86. Man I spent 4 or 5 summers living there with him. I bet Miss Moody would have been upset to see this happen to the camp. Hunted all over that place until Tara bought most of the land around the camp. I just tried to call him at the camp but no one was there. Hell of a nice guy and one of the best duck hunters I know. Taught me everything I know about duck hunting

Heard today he was offered 5 mill and turned it down. Not sure if it's true. I don't see it happening.

Went fishing there with a friend a couple of times put in at albarmarle and wore em out (slabs). This was also during duck season and sounded like there was some good duck hunting there as well. One of the guys that met us has a cabin on the road coming in before you cross the levee and spends alot of time there bet they are not happy to hear about this.

He (owner of Chotard landing) told me one time that he owns approx. 100 acres. Sure wish I had the stroke to be able to turn down 50k per acre for that. That's the equivalent of prime commercial real estate in the Jackson metro area.

I'm just a little skeptical, especially considering the fact that it was reporter here earlier that he only paid 80 grand for the property.

Wildfowler,
Like I said I just don't see it happening. You do have to consider in the bar and the cabins he rents out. It really doesn't concern me to much because I have access to Aberlmarle. The hunting has not been that great anyways the past 4 or 5 years.

Moody would have just whipped his booty

I don't think that anyone in their right mind would try to buy Chotard landing to keep people out of the lake. It's not realistic to take the risk of winning the legal battles that would follow and my opinion is that the state of Ms would prevent closing access to what is and has always been considered public water.

Is Dent's Landing the only ramp access to Albarmarle? I wonder if the State of Miss. would buy out someone and put a ramp, especially if someone bought out Chotard Landing.
