Black Duck???

Postby Unkljohn » Tue Jan 29, 2008 10:47 am

How rare is it to kill a Black Duck in the North Delta? A friend of mine got one Saturday, and only one person in our camp had ever seen one.
The land owner said it was only the 2nd one that he could remember being killed on his place.
How many here have killed one?

Up here in the hills on sunday we was working some mallets and there was 1 back in the mix. We wanted the black so we passed on some of the mallets that did light but ole black was smart and wound up let'em all go without firing a shot. I did get 1 last year though.

I saw my first one this year light about 100 yds from me. Saw it pass over. It seems like thaere has been a lot more this year taken. Either way, true trophy. Only been one ever killed on my place and it was killed by a guest yrs back.

Killed two a few years back, but heard of a few sightings of 3 in a hole we hunt this season.

Chopper you have a open invite when ever you want to come. Sounds crazy but after you kill a bunch and everybody has a pair to mount, I feel kinda of weird breasting them out. We did the same thing last year.

They are somewhat rare, but a proven consistent mallard timber hole will usually yield a few blacks every year.

I've killed one. It was my first duck to ever shoot. Needless to say he has been up on my wall for ten years.
