Down River *pics*

Postby Double R 2 » Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:32 am

Way, way down river. Pirogues, not layout boats. First morning it was raining when we left camp; a down pour commenced the minute we threw the last decoy, about 2 hours later. Limits of bull canvasbacks and sprigs were a given; the remainder of six were harder to come by. We were contented regardless. Two eaglehead blues, pulled from unusually low-flying flocks, were just reward for braving the downpour.

Big thanks to Jeff & Company.

I know, just bustin your chops. What days are best for you. I am pretty much available most days train. We have been wearing the spillway out. It hasn't looked this good in over two years. I do need to get to your place I am always looking for a quick place to get to when I am by myself to run some blinds.

LawDawg -- He better be on his game.

Mud -- All those big boats look the same when you're squinting into sideways rain.

We come in soaked to the bone like a sorry pack of drowned rats but no one cared because the ducks had flown like mad and we'd manged those bonus blues. That it was mid-40's helped. Low and behold, about the time we all got dried and warmed, Jeff unleashed a pot of cajun-cooked canvasbacks. Some of the best ducks I've ever eaten. Another couple dozen of those raw oysters we'd had the night before would have hit the spot.

Shot a tall flying pintail in the rain. Hadn't seen those wigeon that were coming in on Jeff's side. Minute I shot, the wigeon bounced and Jeff lit into it like only a good friend can or will: !@#$!! you #$%^& holy $%^&* you !@#$%%^&!!!!!!! Second the pintail hit the water with an enormous splash, he quickly apologized: I take back everything. Well, everything but the MF!
