Turkeys??

This will be my first year to attempt turkey hunting. Any advice such as calls, strategies, etc...

check out http://www.mdwfp.com and check out the forums {turkey} tons of info out there to get you started- then you are on your own..{they sure know how to make me feel humble...

Im in the same boat. Certified turkey topwater . . . just never have hunted them for some reason, but gonna make it happen this spring. The turkey forum mentioned previously has all kinda good info on it.

NWTF.org has lots of good stuff as well. Welcome to the addiction. Haven't killed a bird since 2003 and I'm more pumped this year than I was last year. How's that for crazy?

If there is one piece of golden advice I would give is patience. I can't count how many times I thought it was 'time to go' only to stand up and get busted. Also, u can never be too hidden. Soft calling. Ever been with 'that guy' who blows his duk call as loud as he possibly can? Take that with your mind when you turkey hunt. Also, I like it real early...like sittin down in there area you want to be an hour before first break. Just some simple basics that may help.

Bit of advise take someone with ya taht knows what they are doing learn some basics from them then apply what u see and hear.Just remember u can edgucate an old Tom real quick...And by the way if ya dont have an addictive personality you will be alright if u do u screwed

I've found the best call is one that kinda goes ding-ping-ping-ding, the same sound the corn makes coming out of the feeder

Get a experinced turkey hunter to take you out once or twice and learn the ropes. As far as calls go slate calls are about the easiest to use.

looks like you have been driving turkey in the fall, perhaps while Phesant hunting in the Mid west?
Ducky1, Im not a seasoned vet, ive been turkey hunting for about 9 years. Best advice i can give you is learn to call. get some dvd's to get you started. then record yourself calling from a distance outside.
Stay away from the gimick calls, like the push button yelpers, no turkey ever sounded like that. i also stay away from most store bought slate and box calls. Get a good quality Slate call, and a lynch box call, and that will give you a good start. If you wanna good slate send me a PM, i got a few fresh off the lathe.
As far as learning when to call its gonna just take hunting.
Oh and as far as educating a gobbler, thats true to some extent, but "THEY CAN ALL BE FOOLED, THEY JUST CANT BE FOOLED ALL THE TIME."
i hunted a gobbler in oklahoma last year that my brother missed three time, was spooked on two different hunts, that turkey would run from a call, but when mother nature said it was time for him to breed, i was in the right place and the right time, he came to the call and died!
Stick with em, go listen before and after work, and get in there early and stay late!

Hang around this board long enough and you will see that is a "old standard" answer to most hunting related questions. Good luck in your quest for the gobbler. There's nothing like it. Good advice so far.

Put out about 200-300lbs of corn. Then sit and wait. Only way to kill them.

You still won't really know what you are doing until you have chased them for 2-3 seasons. Then you will know enough to get close, and just get frustrated. But if it were easy, most of us wouldn't have the sickness as bad as we do.
If you live near any place where you can go to a seminar or two, that will help too.
