I hunt around Marks, after a good hunt Saturday, Sunday morning our fields were locked up and no ducks in sight. Last night's cold weather didn't help the situation. I know it's warmer today and tomorrow, but supposed to get cold again by the end of the week, looks like things may lock up again. Saturday and Sunday should thaw things out, but will it be to late?......folks hunting fields in the North Delta, interested in your thought of the last week.......

stitch,
I hunted around Tunica yesterday and the rice field around us was froze solid. We tried busting the ice but it would freeze back.
Not that it would have mattered, there were no ducks in sight.
I hope they come back when everything thaws.

Same here we had a great gadwall hunt on saturday but sunday it was all frozen. We tried to break also but couldn't keep it thawed we killed three mallards and never saw anymore flying. We should of been on the fish ponds but heard a buddy went to the river and killed a bunch of mallards. When it is frozen deep water the way to go.

We busted ice in a rice field. Worked out a big hole and the few ducks that came along actually landed on the ice beyond the dekes! Killed one sprig and coulda shot a couple more but we fell for the "circle decoys ten times and leave" routine. Overall saw very few ducks.

Find a spot where the ducks kept the water open, even if they do fly off that morning, sometimes we'll catch em comin back that afternoon lookin for some open water. afternoons can be good hunts when the fields thaw...if they thaw

Hillhunter is exactely right. We hunted Sunday in Belzoni and everything was froze up but began to thaw out around 12:30 and it was like someone flipped a switch and ducks started pouring in and no we didn't kill a single spoonbill. Sunday night ducks stayed on the pond and kept a nice hole in the ice, but it was much slower hunting.

I also have experienced good hunting after the thaw....But when it does freeze and you can manage to open and keep a hole open, it sure is easy to sit the ducks on the mark.....
