Why do so many hunters nowadays say they "harvested" a deer instead of killed one?? I know this a petty observance, but it seems ridiculous to say that. We don't "harvest" an animal, we kill an animal. We are not talking about soybeans, or cotton, or corn that is actually harvested, we are talking about putting a bullet or arrow through an animal to kill it. It might sound cold but that's the way it is......and saying "harvest" instead of killed or shot desn't make it any less brutal. I think hunters say "harvest" to appease all these anti-hunting, peta idiots, so it doesn't sound so offensive to them...if so, who gives a damn about those tree-huggers anyway.......they hate us all. As for me, I have never harvested a deer and never will, I only kill, as every hunter does. What is ya'lls opinion on this?

Although I don't think I have ever said "harvest," if non-hunters at work ask me about how hunting is going, I try not to say "killed." I don't see anything wrong with consciously trying to be unoffensive -- whether the listener is an anti- or not.

I know this was an off the wall topic, but I just wonder when people started saying it......hell, for all I know people have been saying it for hundreds of years. It just seems hunting has gotten to be so commercial and all the tv guys say it, so I guess folks just followed suit. Ok, I admit, stupid topic, I was just bored......

the word harvest fits well when referring to killing a deer in a management situation (i.e. we need to harvest x amount of does this year or we harvested x amount of mature bucks that scored over xxx). It seems it is the politically correct term to use. Pardon me, do you have any grey poupon?

I think we say harvest especially these TV hosts because it more PC and frankly it sounds better than shot, killed, busted the hell out of.

Its not for PETA folks but nonhunters that are neutral on the subject and this verbage is used so not to push them one way or another. Same reason when a TV show "harvests" an animal they won't show a big bloody picture of the animal afterwards.

I know its pretty common here in the W&F dept. at MSU to use the word harvest when speaking of managing wildlife populations.

Yes, I do load my deer that way IF I have to use my 4 wheeler to get the deer to my truck, where else would I put it? I have to leave the tailgate down just to leave enough room for the 4 wheeler.

Talk to Ted Nugent about that. He HATES the term 'harvest' when applied to killing animals.

when in the alligator hunt/permit tutorial class the MDWFP had, the word "dispatched" was used several times. So, instead of using killed when speaking of my alligator kill, i say dispatched--only because they pounded it in my brain at the seminar.
