Ear Muffs

Postby Bankermane » Wed Jan 16, 2008 9:00 am

Anyone familiar with volume controlled ear muffs? I have a friend going to Argentina dove hunting and asked me to check. He didn't want to pay for the digital molded ear plugs. I believe they are around $150.

My buddy has got a pair. He says they work fine until the wind starts blowing, then all you get is that "wind blowing into microphone sound."

I assume you are talking about the walker's power muffs. I have heard they are good, but I from what everyone has said, the quad muffs for $50 more do a better job. If he only wants to spend $150, the power muffs should be good, but I would tell him to spend the extra $50 and get the quads.

Muffs style hearing protection...

The best ones on the market are Pro Ears. They are made by Ridgeline. For shotgun shooting, the model you want is the Sporting Clays because it has a thinner cup on the bottom so that it doesn't bang the stock. But, not everyone can wear these without hitting the stock, depending on their build.

I got the Radions from Cabela's for $100. They come in camo which is a plus for duck hunting. Took a little getting used to but can wear them and call when in a pit or close blind that a little ear protection is good. Sound enhancement is unreal and they shut off for all loud noises.

If you are not blowing a duck call, the $80 ones work just great. Peltor makes some good ones. Like someone stated, get the sporting clays model/shotgun model, they have cut outs on the bottom to minimize hitting the stock on a mismount.
