Hey Callmakers - Part II

Postby duckter » Thu Jan 10, 2008 2:17 pm

Got all my tools back in early November and started turning some calls. Now that I've got this picture posting figured out - Well, here's the first - made of Wenge - a tropical wood from Africa. Sound was not exactly what I was after, but still tweaking.

More to come.

Call number 2

Here's my second call - made of Cocobolo. Much better duck acoustics. Sanded all the way to 600 grit with carnuba wax finish.

Third Call -

Postby duckter » Thu Jan 10, 2008 2:34 pm

Here's my third - Barrel made of Osage Orange - keg (insert) made of Cocobolo.

Again, sanded to 600 grit and coated with Hut Crystal finish that includes carnuba wax.

Will also make a keg to match out of Osage Orange. I just ordered some new bands, some brass, some polished aluminum and a few copper.

burl

Postby jdbuckshot » Thu Jan 10, 2008 2:57 pm

Start turning that burl that hasnt been stabilized and it'll bring a new meaning to flying call parts!

If it sounds like a duck call, and looks like a ducks call, then good job!

Would hope to get around $75 per call but unwilling to sell at this point until I've got the sound just right. I am a big fan of a timber type call and that's what I'm after. I'm real close, probably about 80% there, just want it to be perfect.

Need some suggestions on naming my calls. Send all your suggestions and if I choose yours, well, just might be a free call.

I will start with:
"Timbertone Calls"
"Feetdown" Calls
"Cypress Brake Calls"

nice looking calls. I Like "Timbertone Calls"

At this point, attaching with Gorilla Glue. I am drilling some small 1/8" diam holes no more than 1/8" deep (about 4-5 holes) and filling with the glue. Additionally, I am simply rubbing the glue with my finger on the wood and some on the inside of the band. Gorilla glue is an expanding glue so it doesn't take much. Am satisfied so far.
