Guides/Outfitters Banned on Mississippi WMA's?
I'm seeing a new clause in the regulations for our WMA's that specifically bans guides & outfitters. Am I the last to know this? Whaddaya think?

They should be. Leave someplace open for public hunting only and let the guides hunt on the leased land.

They are probably just following the restrictions that are being talked about in Arkansas. I agree with the restrictions. Public land is for the reasonable use of the public, not for a tiny portion of the public to make a buck on at the expense of the REST of the public.

I never thought we had many, if any, but it looks like it was a pre-emptive strike. Has anyone run into this problem in years past?

can't imagine guides on public land... don't see how they stay in business... say you pay for one hunt, then return everyday without there services and ain't a thing they can say... may not be ethical, but neither is guiding public land... seems like a great opportune for out of staters and such... glad to have my own little chunk of wetlands... no matter how successful....

I have seen "guides" at Malmaison. I have heard of "guiding" at Mahannah and Matthews Brake, as well. (Notice how many refuges in Mississippi start with "M"?)

I have heard of guides at Matthews.
don't know if this was what they were doing but I have seen at least two boats hauling numerous people (10-12 diferent people) across the brake. They carried no decoys (probably already had another boat out) and no dogs.
I don't think that is fair as they came through my spread at least five times. Back and forth!

Their are more guide services popping up every year. Your state tourist division is promoting hunting in mississippi in a serious way. They want to have the money that arkansas is getting.
