Banded Woodrow

Went hunting with a buddy yesterday in a lil' woody hole. He has laid the wood to them about once a year for last couple of years. Thought we might do the same as the open field mallard situation seems to have dwindled in action as of late.

Pre-hunt set up was prefaced by this fellow telling me about the bands he/they regularly get on this property (remember this guy shoots ducks once a year, usually). So regular is the occurance that he nor his family are excited by the bling. Just supposed to happen, right?

Long story short, the woodies don't pile in as they had the day before while he was deer hunting, but a few trickled in. First two came blowing in, from left to right... I am on the left, he on the right, I take the back bird, he shoots the lead, I go to pick the birds up, my drake woody (no band), pick up the lead hen that he shot (band)!

His first shot of the year, probably one of his only shots of the year and he gets a band. There has to be a trend there, and in certain other spots/areas that banded birds seem to migrate to, versus other areas.

there are a few areas i know that your odds of killing a band are very good opening day, because they band the ducks on that site, and they dont leave untill after they have been hunted or it get cold. but i have never killed one!

The federal banding servies headquarters is in maryland, they all say that, tell him to call the number if he wants to know where it was banded.

Caller1,

Are you sure you were the one that shot the duck on the left or was someone else there? Just heard you weren't that good of a shot and that someone had to clean up for you!

Foiled again!!!! By me, I meant "you" and by mine, I meant "yours". Everyone meet Mudbuddy!!! No, he doesn't own a Mudbuddy... he really doesn't even like to get muddy.

Mud, with just three posts no one would have believed that you shot a duck ( ) single handedly, and to go through all the pains of elaborating all the minute details of how you shot at the same bird I did, only to have me wax the bird, was unnecessary. So some of the names were changed to protect the innocent.

This is the internet and most of what you read is fiction anyway. I was just trying to lay down some facts. Facts are that I shot at the bird and the bird fell dead.

Next thing you know, you'll chime in with some lame story of how caller1 mmmm..... mmmmmissss...... missed (whew hard for me to even type the word, much less commit the act) a bird on the water!!! These guys would all know that to be a big falsehood and what little crediability you have would be ruined.

Now you just go back to lurking and don't come out until you're called!

 that is for you Wingman, just seeing how far I could go. Bird is most likely from Avise, a little known city is Manitoba where all good banded birds come from. You and I both know that.

Well, everyone meet Caller1. He doesn't even own a call..... and certainly doesn't know how to use one.

It might be hard for you to say the word missed... but you sure know the action. Let's see....there was a woodie sitting on the water about ten yards away and after one..I mean two... oh excuse me, I meant the third shot  the bird just flew away sticking his booty feathers in your face. Then the funniest thing happened. As I recall, another woodie landed near you and guess what happened? After one.... I mean two  shots at the duck that was helplessly drifting on the water getting a refreshing drink, the duck again just flew off laughing in your face  . Oh I know, but..but I wrapped the duck up and he must of had a bullet proof vest on .

Again, to reiterate my previous post, I think someone else was there that shot the the duck you are referring to in your original post. That is, looking at your shooting skills that day  .
