Illegal Hunt in Matthews Brake Yesterday

It seems yesterday that some of the locals that hunt the brake and Alabama boys were busted hunting out of season and they had 44 ducks. This is not a joke, it did happen. They came to the launch without ducks, but the wardens sent them back out to get them, I guess they were convinced it would be better for them in the long run. Some of the illegal person’s also like to frequent this site. What kind of people would think they could get away with hunting on federal land during a closed season? At least they won't be hunting the line this year.

Yours truly, the prince of Matthews Break

Glad they got caught, that was just stupid. If you gonna hunt know the rules and seasons. What was the fine and did they loose thier license?

Don't know about the license but heard the fine was $24,000. Don't know if that is the exact truth but heard it from someone staying at a camp on Matthews Brake.Probaly same person as MP heard it from. Sucks now all the ducks are gone from there

Fines

Not sure about the fines or punishment, it must go to the judge and this has yet to occur. Should lose their state hunting rights for a least two years, should lose their rights to hunt on federal refuges for a time period and a substantial monetary fine. They should have also taken their firearms .

MP, u got a hard on for the folks that hunt matthews brake or what? Seems like u came on here a year or two ago and started a big ol pot a shat, and werent even a member of that club that adjoins the brake. I would imagine the dumbazzes that got busted yesterday committed an honest mistake, seems a bit harsh to take 2 years hunting and guns, etc.. from them. It would be different if it was in february or the like. My 2 cents, proceed . . .

BMF, did not start anything. Just informing people of un-ethical hunters. Once again, my best friend owns the private property in the break and we hunt together, don't need to be a member, just good friends legally hunting and sharing memories. As for the fines, I was simply making a statement about fines I know people received for doing what happend yesterday. I guess you feel it was alright and they forgot what day it was.

Im just saying they probaly didnt intentionally hunt out of season and made an honest mistake . . . i could be wrong thou, that happens on an almost daily basis. No need in calling anybody out on it, i imagine they got the dumbazz blues bigtime rightnow. Proceed.

Seems to me that if one hunts the brake and they are the only ones out there..hmmm I think I would be on the phone calling someone to see whats up. Ok yesterday there were 80 trucks at the landing and today we have it all to ourselves? Yes it could be an honest mistake and and I hope it was, it really sucks but it is what it is. I know one thing they shot the hell out of some ducks!!!

i hope it was nobody i know  i hate it for them either way.... i suppose that is the danger of having a one day split, it could cause confusion.... maybe the season dates need to be posted at all the boat launches and WMA parking areas....

that being said...it was a tuesday morning they may have thought it was simply a light day at the boat ramp....those do happen during the week....

someone should put together a book or card of all the days of the week and number them within the month so we will be able to keep better track of it

Maybe a gate with a lock on it! Close and lock it on closed days and open it on open days! I know that is a whale of a concept but it just might work. No No it would'nt because then the Govt would have to pay some one to do it and we know that does not work.

what we have here is failure to comply with federal regulations. sucks to have to learn the hard way.
