Mallard X Black Duck Hybrid

Postby tobydawg » Tue Dec 04, 2007 9:36 pm

Got this bird this past saturday morning. Boy was I tickled! I shot him for a black cause all I could see was the darker underbelly and white inside of the wings. Pleasant surprise when Toby brought him in to me! Don't know if he's a straight 50/50 cross or not cause he exhibits a lot of mallard characteristics. Not as dark overall as some photos of others I've seen.

most of the mallard black crosses have exhibited more traits of the black, in fact a "true cross" will be mostly black but show characteristics of the irradescent green head

thats an interesting specimen no doubt

That is a mallard/wiegion cross. No black mallard in that duck
Look at his feet and bill wrong colors for a black.
Not that rare really. I've got two mounted! Have seen several
more in the last 45 years or so. Also have 2 black mallard/wegion
cross breeds. Same head on a black body

That is one nice looking duck, almost looks like he is wearing a mardi gras mask in the first pic.

i agree with BR549.... one question though...how does it count on your stringer, a Mallard or a robber duck?
