It is a carb issue. Not necessarily a problem. Mine will backfire after I tote a load through a flooded field or real deep mud. When I really load it down. It is caused by an excessive amount of fuel dumped in the carb and therefore the exhaust system or a fuel/air mixture problem.
I don't worry about it.

I had it happen and it did blow a gasket. Had to haul it to Jackson to figure it out. Had to haul it again to get the carb rebuilt. I will run every duck out of the area when it happens.

What sucks is when you get a ticket for shooting after hours when it happens.

Try turning your idle down just a bit. I know that works in older cars. To high an idle can cause that. Can't hurt to try?

I've got a 99 grizzly 600 that does that sometimes too! I never really thought much about it though but it definitely does it.
