On the news Tenn state govt, was talking about closing state parks this year because of the budget. They spent to much money on social programs. Reelfoot lake was one that was named. If they close the lake will it mean that the public can not hunt or fish?

No...the state park closing does not have anything to do with hunting and fishing on Reelfoot. All that means is the visitor center, gift shop, and concession area will be closed and limited state park personnel will be on duty. The state park area is administered by the Dept. of Conservation, and the hunting is administered by the Tenn. Wildlife Resources Agency. You can still access the lake from public and private boat docks. Also, Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge is managed by U.S. Fish and Wildlife; that portion of the lake is closed to the public during waterfowl season until about March 1. I have alot of hunters that hunt Reelfoot and then come hunt with me.

It did cross my mind, if no one hunted Reelfoot how many ducks would stay up there.

I've seen pictures and it does look almost as good as some of my property. haha

If I ever get a spare $ I might go hunt more than 20 miles from home.

If you go to the Sept. 5 edition of the Union City Daily Messenger at www.ucmessenger.com you will find an article telling about the Reelfoot Lake State Park closing. The Tennessee state government is in major budget crunch at present and it is affecting many state agencies. However, the TWRA boat docks will still be open along with the private motel/resort docks.....acornman
