What's the real story

Postby Snapp » Mon Oct 15, 2007 6:27 pm

What's the real story about the delta Wings Festival in Drew, MS? Is it a good time, with large crowds or what ... provide some honest feedback.

Just thinking about one last outing with the wife before our season starts.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm thinking about going up there with the ole' "ball and chain", but she is easily put off by rude or unacceptable language or behavior. Personally, I feel it will be conducted in a family friendly manner and we should hear some good callers there. I guess the main problem I have is how can I keep her spirits up on the 3 hour drive from Clinton up there? HMMM!?   :D

Ball and chain ... it has to be better than that or you wouldn't consider taking her along :)

First year is tough, as are the next nine, but at least they are advertising it ... and on a good site!

Delta Wings Festival - Drew, MS

Postby jjyoung » Mon Oct 15, 2007 9:08 pm

Our members are planning on making a weekend of it. Stafford Shurden and Main Street Drew have poured a lot of effort into this event. Delta Waterfowl is putting on their first ever event in Drew.

The Main Street area is a great venue and it has come a long way from ten years ago. The timing is spectacular just a few weeks from the season opener. Mike Ellis and the hometown band will provide some good tunes and the local planters are having one of their better years. Should be some great reasons to have a good time.

Have talked with a number of hunters from around the State that plan on making the trip.

Our hopes are that other clubs and avid waterfowlers will come enjoy. Hammertime if you make the trip look us up.

They are some outlaws who live around Phillip. Have a reputation for fighting at the public landings and allowing their cur dog to fight any dog, etc. A few years ago they got into it with a game warden and hurt him pretty bad with a bicycle chain welded to a pipe. One of them got sent back to the pen over that. Another time they set fire to a OOS's truck a few weeks later and that was when I first heard about them but no one really knows if that was really them that did it. I saw the smoke that morning but didn't know what it was til later. Only time I saw them was year before last they started a ruckus with their dog at the landing before daylight and one of them went off during the excitement and pulled the plug from several boats that were ahead of them. We didn't notice it until 5 o'clock when we went to pull out. They got ahead of everybody that time and it was the last time I hunted public up there.

sounds interesting, but also sounds like the El Camino gang might be there!

So where is Drew? Are the any motels? Someone mentioned Delta Waterfowl event. Are they sponsoring this event or is a local committee doing a banquet?
