I've got a buddy who has one. Actually, I've got it at my house now. It does a really good job. Keeps the meat very moist too. I wouldn't want to replace my traditional charcoal smoker with this, but it is a nice addition. It's different. You can over do the smoke easily if you're not careful. Start out on the light side until you get comfortable with it.
It's pretty fast too since there is minimal preheating time. You can come home from work and throw some chicken quarters on, and eat dinner before dark.
They do require a lot of cleaning which is a pain. I guess you could turn the heat all the way up and let it "self-clean" like an oven?
thinking about getting one for the camp

I was thinking about getting one for the camp. Put the food on at lunch or earlier, if needed. Go hunting for the afternoon. Come in at dark and eat. I understand that there will be no flare ups of very few. Plus, the digital unit would keep the heat constant to cut out the watching time. No doubt that the old fashion charcoal is best, in my mind. But, it would be nice to come in from hunting and have food ready to eat. Thanks for your input.

Make sure you get one that has hthe adjustable temp. I had one with just the plug in and go element. Way too hot. I ended up giving it away.
