Dante's first day of school

My wife is teaching 1st grade this year. Today was meet the teacher day.
One little boy's mother came in the room and was speaking with my wife. The boy's name on the roll is "Dante", which my wife and I both thought was pronounced "Don tay". His mom came in and was calling him "deeon tay". My wife asked to make sure if it was "don tay" or not, and the mom said "I really don't know how you say that right there. How do you say that right there?" The mom said she really didn't want to name him that anyway and to just call him whatever my wife wanted to call him.
Isn't it reassuring to know that your mom is not quite sure how to pronounce your name...and she gave you the name?
The names on her roll, first names only:
Citalli
Teana
Tiara
Rodneycia
Kaniya
Jawaski
Dante
Fredrick
Yatranice
Kyle
Travis
Cameron
Anuatica
Arkasia
Joshua
Laquonia
Elizabeth
Austin

Please, please where's Bill Cosby when you need him. I can only imagine one day when they are filling-out job applications - hate to judge a book by it's cover, but...
A poor, poor, pitiful shame.

If I were their parents I would send them to private school

Yep, fixing to fork out $320 a month for mine (sure would make a nice car payment or extra house payment). Sad part is they had to close the 7-9 grade of this particular school this year for lack of students.
Most of the Delta private schools are hurting for students and the tuition can't go much higher for the existing parents.

When my wife was working labor and delivery at the hospital they had a mom that wanted to name their baby "Chit Head".

No lie. They called social services in on that one. Also had a Mom want to name their baby "va-ja-ja", pronounced Vajina, they called social services in on that one as well.
