It will be a draw of somesorts for Fri Sat Sun Wed. Closed on Mon Tues Thurs I would hate to have a lot of money tied up in a lease surounding Mahanna especially on the closed days.

I would enjoy having a lease next to an area holding large numbers of ducks or a large sanctuary. If you know of such an area someone wants to unload for cheap, let me know.

http://www.mdc.mo.gov/cgi-bin/mdcdevpub ... and%20Pass

170,000 mallards with a mid 2 bird/person average didn't happen because every square inch of the area was hunted every day of the week.
No sense being pessimistic, it probably wouldn't work out anyway.

It would be nice to have a lease there but on the closed days with nothing to move them birds it ain't gona be pretty. It will be one BIG sanctuary.Hell i have seen them birds sit even with hunters in the field. But i will put in and hope to get drawn. Looks like i'll be hunting out of the boat alot this year.

Last year the millet and corn in the moist soil areas off Buckshot road at Mahannah concentrated the ducks and the hunters causing injury and lawlessness.
Maybe hind sight, but all that had to be done was to close the ATV trail to only foot traffic and get some officer prescence for shooting hours. None off us down Martin's Crossing were in such a circus. Prolly won't be going down there much anymore so what's the secret...Won't be goin in the woods anymore either...
Now, and after 3 respected board members urgings, who really don't hunt the place, the commisssion decide to implement draw. The dept. has come up with the tentative plan: http://www.mdwfp.com/forums/topic.asp?T ... hichpage=2
Wonder how they are gonna manage this complicated :?: deal when they couldn't deal with a simple problem they had the year before.
Then, there are some around that after trying to read this scheme will get headaches!!!
And lotta people that never hunted the place now are curious and wanta sign up!
Gonna be a lotta wheel spinning and hot cross buns!
Marvelous!!!!
Used to take my 3 wks vacation in Dec.. Done used one prolly use the other 2 trouting/bambing too....Yeh, Yeh....my problem...
Yeh,Yeh....I shoulda voiced myself...
Yeh,Yeh.... the dept has been workin very hard on this plan.
Yeh, Yeh...Still sucks!!!

Waterfowl hunts will be held on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (Closed to waterfowl hunting on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays).

-Friday, Saturday and Sunday Hunts

. -Preseason draw for approximately 50% of spots we know will have water (about 10 positions for the preseason)

. -3 days are one hunt for the hunters who were drawn preseason

. -Draw for order to select hunt units on each morning of the hunt

. -Preseason draw hunters go first and draw from the number of numbered cubes that represent the number of available positions, then standby hunters draw from the remaining cubes plus cubes that were added to account for the number of standby hunters.

. -Preseason draw hunters are guaranteed a hunt, just not a hunt in the best locations.

. -One member of the party signs in and lists all members of party

. -Pre-drawn and standby hunters sign in separately

. -One party per hunt unit

. -Hunt units available to be hunted will vary depending on water

. -Once draw begins any pre-drawn hunters that come up late become standby hunters

-Hunt on Wednesday

. -No preseason draw

. -One day hunt

. -Draw for order to select hunt units on morning of the hunt

. -One member of the party signs in and lists all members of party

. -One party per hunt unit

. -Hunt units available to be hunted vary depending on water

- Hunt units marked in field with signs
- Hunt units will be on a map in the headquarters and on the web page (not yet available)
- Harvest and mandays per day per hunt unit marked on board in headquarters
- Harvest and mandays updated each day on website

- Checkout at headquarters after hunt

. -Check harvest

. -Check on hunters filling out survey

-Allow hunters to go into adjacent units to retrieve crippled birds.
-Start the draw at 4:00 am until the middle of Dec. then move it to 4:30 (due to later sunrise). Post these times on the web and at Mahannah.

Remember, these are not yet official and are subject to change. If you have any questions, let me know and I will try to explain it to you.

Just like last year, I am going to take most of January off. Seeing as how the weekends will be a preseason draw I guess my best chances are to hit the Wednesdays.

There used to be a lease that bordered Mahannah in Cypress Bayou, but I don't know what the deal is with it anymore. The guy that owned it died and someone bought the land and since (to my knowledge) has done very little with it.
