Delta and Ducks Update

I spent the past few days traveling Hwy 61 from Memphis to Jackson and I would like to report that I saw 1 mallard and 2 woodies total in 2 days. I noticed that all bean farmers are pretty much in the same sinking boat. I talked with my father in law and he said that he has about 500 acres of beans yet to be picked and if he did not get 2 weeks of dry weather then the ducks would have a hayday on the beans.

I traveled to our duck holes to look around. We put the boards up and busted levees a couple of weeks ago in the rice fields and they were already holding some water but no ducks. We left the stubble up this year so I guess we will see how it works out.

But that is my update on the whole delta and ducks. Hope someone else has a better update than mine.

Here we go...posting on the internet where the mallard is. Before we know it, the whole state of SC will be over here hunting our mallard. ;)

I might have seen that mallard awhile back off of 55 around Duck Hill exit

I feel sure the phones will be ringing off the hook now wanting to book a mallard hunt!

Thanks again for the laugh I really need it :)

Kinda like the aerial surveys that SB gives us:

23,052 mallards
10,113 pintails
3,456 gadwalls
13 bluebills

Come on guys, round for crying out loud. I can't even count 'em that close. :D

I've had folks telling me all week that ole so & so said they been seeing ducks. Haven't talked to noone who actually seen any. I got out and rode around all over the south end this evening and ain't even seen a stinkin' local duck. We've had ducks in front of the camp all year and they weren't even there this evening. My huntin' pard from Helena called and said he was up around Jonesboro and north and HE saw quite a few. Who knows. 8)

Tunica,
I think your not being truthful. I saw about 300 mallards and gadwalls funneling in a brake about 3.5 miles southeast of me about 10:30 this morning. I wonder whose hole that is

I do have the GPS marked. I might go to the South Carolina site and put them up for auction. Just to show you how good of a guy I am I'll cut you in on halfs

I sat on the bridge for 1/2 an hour with binoculars and never saw a duck DD. Thats the first place I went. Always have ducks there when they arrive. I bet they went out in Mr. Vances field where the lake is backed out. I bet they did especially if those beans haven't been harvested yet. Mr. Vance told me the other day Mike had lost several acres of beans to the backwater. Either that or I was in the wrong place at the wrong time

Y'all have done it now...reported a duck in MS!

All these GA folks are already packing their Z71's (complete with DU and Delta stickers), loading the Sportsman 600, hitched up the War Eagle w/MudBuddy blind and motor, cased up the SSBE (SuperSonic Black Eagle...the one with radar and stealth technology!), put on the Columbia Quad Parka (that the ad said can make you look and smell like a tree), bought new waders (10 MM neopreme w/titanium soles and internal catalytic heater ), made a trip to Bass Pro Shop to buy the latest 42 Duck Commander tapes (for late night entertainment at the Rolling Fork Dew Drop Inn), purchased the latest solid platinum Rich'nTone duck call (they even promised to practice once before they arrive), bought 5 cases of 3 1/2" BB HeviShot (sometimes you have to take a long shot in those greentrees when the ducks won't come right to you and keep trying to land on somebody else, you know), made the requisite stop at the Stone Mountain Bottle Shop for spirits (only to be drunk in case of snake bite...and everyone of them has his own snake with him just to make sure he gets bit!), filled up the 60 gallon tank so they can visit all over the delta, and is on their way to Your Favorite WMA. See you there, sports fans!

Actually there are about a dozen local mallards in the pond in my neighborhood. My wife and I were walking one night a couple of weeks ago during that cold snap and the ducks were cutting up. Now, I got an itch that needs scratching.

I guess if all else fails, I can walk down the street with my little benjamine .177 pellet gun.
