I have been talking well drilling with a couple of guys, but I don't know what will work. It appears that my options are a 450 gpm 4 inch output, or a 100 gpm 2 inch output. I have 20 acres i'm trying to put water on. The field has been leveled and levee'd into 2 10 acre sections. The price difference in the wells is about $4000. Would the 100 gpm work? How long would it take to flood the field?

i would go ahead with the larger pump. that way you will have the larger one if needed later and the larger will save you energy costs. the smaller pump will take more time and fuel to pump the needed water, thus using more fuel or electricity. The larger pump will eventually pay for itself with fuel costs the way they are.

When you run through the math, it will take you about 45 days to put one foot of water over the whole 20 acres with a 100 gpm pump. That does not count the water that will soak in to the ground.

If the field has been leveled then I would think that there would be a pump already in place. Are you replacing an existing pump or what??

We bought the feild last year and had it leveled a week ago. Thanks bully, someone to do the math is exactly what I needed.
