I guess all you regulars of the place will have to get in line. Mahannah is a draw now, courtesy of the MDWFP. Thank you friend of the avg. joe hunter.

I'm not that worried about it. In all honesty, places like that need to be regulated. If you have every single Tom, Dick, and Harry there hunting, and nobody is killing birds because of the competition, then this will make it better for the lucky drawn participants. I guess though, that on the other hand if you don't have any place other than that to hunt then it would suck. That is why I don't limit myself to "one" place to hunt. I have at least 5 places all within an hour/hour and a half of my house that I have killed limits of ducks at.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I'm with you on the multiple hunting locales. You can over hunt a hole. And if it's public land you're hunting, you have to assume if you aren't there someone else is. I usually hunt a spot once a week, and skip to the next.

Totally agree... five spots, hell we got at least 7-8 spots. What I am saying is what's next? What about when that next spot of yours turns draw? Don't say it can't happen either, it can, and guess what...think about the wma's and fuges around that will absorb that crowd? It is a domino effect. It is never, EVER, good when we are restricted from even more free access to public hunting land. There were better ways to address the problem than cutting the public off from free access hunting. Three years from now(theoretically), "Sir your wma permit will be 45 dollars" 45 dollars and I don't even know if I am gonna get to hunt myfavorite wma. Never a good thing. NEVER.

Never a good thingI I personally do not hunt this WMA but I am against any draw in MS go to some of the other states and see how screwed up the rules for these things are. Hell you put in for more than one or two places on more than a couple of days and you will have to have an admin asst. to keep your times dates and rules straight. MARK my words it is bad!!!

It will be good for the guys that need someone to tell them when where and how to hunt how many shells they can take and where to hide there boat when to stand up when to drink coffee and how to wipe thar azzez but for all other "hunters" it will be pittifull.

The worst thing about it as someone stated earlier it WILL spread to your favorite WMA so if it doesnt affect you now or you think it doesnt ,it will.

Po monkey or one of you other Great law minds need to get us a petition drawn up againt this thing. Just because it has been done doesnt mean it cannot be undone.

I see what you mean about restricting the states hunting land. It's good in a way because it limits traffic on the wma, but in the same sense it forces the average Joe out. Well not everyone just the people that didn't get drawn.

I am used to this but the draw is different. The TWRA has blinds that are built on the WMA'S in 3 counties and there are around 400-500 blinds total. They have a draw in August and it is like winning the lottery, by the way the blind you win is for the year not for one day. So if you are like me a broke college student and you don't have 15000 to buy a blind you are screwed. Yeah the 15000 is what the top 3 picks usually go for it’s not legal but is happens. I went last year and there were 3,000 people and 200 blinds, I wouldn't hunt anything but the top 25 the others are a waste of time. So look at it this way you might get lucky and get to go hunting rather than wishing you would have got drawn..

work extra overtime during the year and save you $1500-$2000 and get in a decent lease and dont worry about it. people are gonna complain either way. i have hunted mahanna a good bit and on the days it is crowded it sucks on the days its not it is great. so there needs to be some limit. maybe it will keep so east coast folks at home. just my .02 cents

why is this a slam against the average joe?? are average joe's excluded from the draw? people bitch about the crowds until they do something about it. the last time I hunted the WMA was with Wildfowler years ago before the crowds...we killed ducks frequently. it was the three or 4 bird limit everyone griped about then.....

Yes, there is a lot of merit to paying for a place to hunt, and I'm personally doing my part to limit my usage of public lands by leasing and having other access to private lands. But we all know there are very few places that are consistent winners day in day out.

There will be times when leases/private lands just doesn't produce. And when the inevitable happens, I'm not content to keep beating my head against the same tree and would hate to loose my opportunity to get to go looking for another place to hunt on public lands when needed.
