I found some of my Grandfather's duck bands. They are all marked AVISE BIRD BAND write wachington DC with a 10 digit number. I assume they are pretty old. Is there away I can find out about them?
Thanks for your help

You should be able to call the 800 # and ask about them. If they were ever originally reported, the band laboratory should be about to find out about them. If not, they'll tell you.

I'd request duplicate certificates. That's cool stuff. My grandfather through them out with attached to th fet after cleaning; thought absolutely nothing about them.

I killed a banded woodie in January with one of those bands marked AVISE Bird Band. I assumed it was an old band as most new ones have phone numbers on them. But when I called it in the bird was banded last summer in Georgia. Could be that they still had some old bands they were using for banding.

hey guys - new to the forum so this is my first post. I'm sure some of you already know this, but for those who don't, you can actually claim your bands online now!
http://www.reportband.gov/
I recently submitted some old numbers of mine & they mailed the certs to me within a week or two. One problem I encountered though is that older bands (20 years +)are not in the database. So more than likely your Grandfathers bands won't be there, but it's pretty neat otherwise.
It's worth a try though.

I killed a banded sprig on my first hunt and it was an AVISE band. Lost the info years ago. Wouldn't mind getting a new copy though.

a banded sprig ~ every hunters dream...
Ted - if you still have the band, submit the number to the site I posted above & you'll get instant info on the bird & the certificate will follow via snail mail (only if it's in the database so if your first duck was after 1987, you shold be okay).
