From General Discussion: Well at least next time you get a pup you'll know that kennel is one of the first commands taught. You can force to kennel. Like forcing on back, ff, etc. It's obviously not as strenuous but it is helpful.
Brewer you should go train with me sometime.

Do you have a crate in the truck when doing this?

If not, put it in there, and make the pup kennel.....

No kiddin, not much of anything going on up here this time of year. If the pup knows kennel I'd just try the force to kennel method. Look at DIB's web page I am certain there is something on there addressing it somewhere in one of those articles.

yea the kennel is there....... it could be that its a f 150 wiht a two inch left,,,, that mite me a high jump for a 14 month old.... im not sure....

but on the bright side, i went and got my brothers pathfinder this afternoon and worked on here for twenty minutes by pullin her up by her ears when saying it...... at the end of the twnety minutes she did it by her self the last four times...... proud of her.... who would have thought...... she gets ducks before loading up......

and greenhead..... ill go whenever.... i have got to catch up with her...... she is rusty.... and its time i teach her some new things that she sould already know..... baseball puts me so far behind....

Tell ya what i had to do with a dog one time.
Dog absolutely would not load up in truck. So i put a lead on him started running and as i jumped in the truck i pulled his butt up there with me. As i would do it i said LOAD UP! After about 4 or 5 times he got the point.
Never had to do it again.

Another thing you may try is if your truck is to tall. Back your truck up next to a poarch and get her in afew times. Then move your truck and see if she'll do it for you.

ive never had any luck forcing a dog into a kennel. much easier to make the jump shorter, and make it fun. toss a bumper into the back of the truck. why force or drag with ears when you can make it fun and get results quicker? travis

Back your truck up in a ditch or something to lower the tailgate and let the pup do that a couple of times to build confidence.

Alot of times ......you have a young dog that yu help in da truck cause they can't jump.........pup gets dependent on you and doesn't learn that they can jump......they aren't confident...... until they get real excited forget what they are doing and jump in ......like the light bulb goes off........ the dog just doesn't know he can do it .......so don't force or beat him over it ......its half your fault cause you have helped him for the past 14 months......... try all the above tricks.........then if that don't work, try something that always works......... Food ...... HOT DOG - wave that and then get up in the bed and encourage the dog to come up .......maybe give him a small bite on the ground then take the rest with you up in the truck.........he'll get in ........once he learns and sees that he can jump on his own ......he may stall the next day or so ......and it will take a few more times and then it will be like nothin ' no hot dog needed. I have never tried the hot dog thing, just so ya know. But dog treat or any food item your dog may like - makes this huge obstacle problem you've developed turn into NUTIN ! Forcing a dog in a kennel - same thing...........why burn the dog into the kennel ?? I got three dogs that will kennel whenever I tell them too.......treat or no treat ...... and I have never had to battle with them or burn them or force them in anyway. There is such a easier way to train dogs......... I dont know what it is about our impatient natures that we think = " I goin to shew that dawg whose boss !!

no offense, but if he wouldnt jump for a bumper or a duck, i don't think Id throw a hot dog... Id probably be thru feeding him if he wouldnt go for a duck! travis

This is a classic case of Truckshyness, get a Volvo, that should cure it.

Once again........there are many dogs that aren't going to do the whoola whoop for a cold ass duck that they have already retrieved for the past 2 hours during your once a week overloaded training session. Dogs will do almost anything for food they like, even when they are tired. Unless you have a maniac dog that cant get enough bumbers, the food might be an idea for ya ..... Thanks Travis .....appreciate you shooting down my hot dog therory......whats the deal, men have thought hotdogs are the answer to every problem prior to now !!!
