Boat question?
Boat question?
I got an F&F 1652 that has a 40hp motor with a 13 pitch prop. The boat shoots out of the hole but when it plains out the nose starts digging in and slowing the boat down. The boat is open in the middle and has a front deck. I tried to change the angle of the motor by rasing the pin one notch, but then the motor was running with to many RPM's and still digging. Can I change the pitch of the prop or do I need to add some weight to the rear of the boat, would a jack plate help? Thanks

A jackplate would definitely help, but there are other options.
I would try to adjust the motor angle as you did before. If not up, then down. Trial and error.
If that doesn't work, I would consider going up in prop pitch. I run an alumcraft 1648 with a 40 hp and am running a 16 pitch. I had a 15 previously and it was fine, the 16 is a little faster.
The 13 pitch is more of a pushing prop. with your boat being so light, I'd consider a prop change. I found a new one on Ebay for less than half the price at a marine store.

Been better, been worse
do you have a speedometer/tachometer on your boat or does it just sound like it is running too many rpm's? raising your motor UP is the way to get the nose up, and what I have noticed on boats before with the pin system vs power T/T is that they tend to cavitate when going around corners when raised too high, but usually 1 pinhole up makes very little difference in the rpm's the boat runs...maybe 2 to 3 hundred. Once it quits digging the nose in and gets up on pad "right" your rpm's will increase anyway as there is less resistance against the motor. If you are running a tach and the rpm's seem excessive I would get a prop that would create less rpms for your boat and raise the motor up accordingly.
