I was using interceptor on a 20 day cycle with breaking the tablet in half and giving each half to Nash in 30 minute incriments. If you use interceptor be sure and get it from a Vet and have that vet do a heartworm test on your dog so you will be covered in the event your dog comes up positive for heartworms. But I have switched.
There is a new product out it is called K-9 Advantage Multi, It is a topical treatment like your flea and tick meds. It treats heartworms, intestinal worms and also takes care of fleas and other bugs, it does not treat against ticks though. You are to put it on the dog in a couple of places down its back and make sure it stays out of the water for 24 hrs.
I was worried about the medicine in the pills not staying in the the dog, whether it is from throwing it back up or a high metabolism. The pill versions only treat the dog over a course of 24 hrs best case senario, the multi actually stays in the dog for 30 days. Which means continous protection.
Down side to it is about 100.00 bucks for a 6 month supply, but with it you do not have to use another product for Flea control. 50 bucks a month for heartworm prevenative and 50 bucks a month for flea control works out the same.
Here is the website,

What ever you do be sure and do your reasearch first, make sure that when you switch you have the vet that you are going to buy you prevenative from runs a heartworm test the same day you buy your first 6 month supply and when you get your next 6-month supply make sure you get another heartworm test.

Another thing, What ever you do do not buy it over the internet or thru Pet Meds, It will not be covered by the manufacture due to the conterfit medicines.

Nash,
Is this company going to pay for treatments if your dog gets heartworms like heartguard or interceptor will?

This is a fairly new product for the states but it has been in Europe for 3 yrs. I like it because it differs from the other brands by providing a continous month of prevention were the others are kind like a once a month flushing.

Nash,
Spoke to my vet about the Advantage Multi and he said the only thing with our region of Ark is ticks and it doesn't have the tick protection. But I think you could get some tick protection easier than trying to get heartworm protection.

Yea it will couple with their K-9 Advantix product. That is what I am doing. I apply the multi on the first of the month and the K-9 Advantix on the 15th, The Advantix also keeps mosquitoes away and that is how heart worms are transmitted. It is pricey but take into consideration the 150.00 for 6 months worth of protection vs the 750 bill for the heartworm treatment once your dog gets them???? Nash is worth it, to me anyway.
