Have had one for about three days now and it's rock solid! Get it.
Add an SD card and go for the $9.99 mapping package. You won't be disappointed. Lemme know if you have questions.

you better hope nothing goes wrong with it. Megellan is the worst company out their thats a manufactor of gps units. i wish i knew how many we send back on a yearly basis that megellan wont fix. some are often only a couple of months old. i would recommend any form or Garmin.

I've been using the explorist 600 for about 1 1/2 now, great unit, definitley get the memory card, the Mapsend Topo 3d is great software, I have detailed topo maps for most of the state saved on the memory card, comes in handy during turkey season :D

Should have mentioned that I have owned both Garmin and Magellan; tested 'em side-by-side in a duck boat for most of a season. The Magellan won hands down. I just recently broke down and upgraded to the 500.

I've noticed in these discussions, folks who have used and/or owned both brands seem to favor Magellans; folks who have owned one brand favor . . . that brand.

I've never had to send one back for service. That could be a different issue entirely. Recently mentioned a problem with my old Garmin to a Garmin customer service rep (so he said). I was called I was a liar, told I was full of BS, wrong and stupid. Sold me on a new Magellan!
