Highway Patrol Gripe

It's bad enough that the inspection sticker is required, no re-newal notice available and the fine for an expired one is roughly $75.00 and then the pulpwooders have no headlights, fenders, windshield, brake lights etc. and I've never seen or heard of them getting a ticket. Have you?

AND NOW GET THIS:

As of January you will no longer get a renewal notice for your drivers license because it "costs too much to send". I'll bet a $100.00 bill that all 49 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Washington D.C. mail out a renewal notice but Mississippi has stopped!!!!!!!!!!! Pathetic!

Yeah I know it'll expire on your brthday but what year? and if you go in the following day, whammo extra fees cause it's expired. You can bet I'll let my representative know just exaclty how I feel.

Now I don't know your individual situation, but I am sure you can afford the 1 or 2 dollar late fee you'll be assessed to have your license renewed if you miss the deadline. I don't remember exactly what they charged me extra, but I can assure you it was no big deal, and the state is not going to get rich off of these fees.

I wouldn't worry your rep over a couple of bucks.

Booger, i don't know what Co. you live in, but i bet if you go get a valid sticker and a reciept, and carry it to your Justice Court, you may get some concideration from your Judge.... after all, next year is election year....haha..... give it a try....

a funny thing happened to me a year or so ago.... the Ms. Bureau of Narcotics and State Investigators were on a big case and all of them were driving white Crown Vic's. they wanted to borrow my 85 chevy van so as to get in close and not give themselves away.... 7 men in black with vest and AK-47s left and i knew i would never see my van again without bullet holes in it.... they returned later, handed me my keys and informed me that my sticker and tag were both out ...!!!!!!!! i told them they better give me a BREAK on this one.....

Booger I agree with you about the drivers license. However I know truck drivers who get ticketed for the slightest infraction also. The D.O.T. boys will set up on the highway and stop log trucks at random, then go over them with a fine tooth comb looking for things like lights that don't work, airline pressure specs, tire condition, etc., etc.. If that isn't enough the weight boys can get 'em for carrying too heavy a load. My point is it could be worse. You could be singled out while driving down the highway minding your own business, like these trucks. These guys are out there just trying to make a living, just like the lawmen, I guess.

My mention of the pulpwooders was referiing to the smaller 6 or 10 wheel "trucks" held together with bailing wire and coat hangers. Parts are usually falling off as well as 5ft sections of trees. Those are the ones that couldn't make 70mph downhill, usually one tire or another is shaking like a dog passing a peach pit. Chugging smoke with a max speed of 40mph at best.

Booger, those trucks along with well drilling rigs and a few other really off the wall vehicles are exempt from inspection stickers, licenses and DOT regulations by state law. Figure that out??? I own a business that does state vehicle inspections and Judge is right. Go get you a sticker and receipt and more than likely they will drop all but court cost.( They do here) I give out 2 or 3 receipts for this a week seems like. Think thats bad I am also on their wrecker rotation and have seen them set up road blocks on Hwy 61 and check for tint %. Anything over 35% is illegal. I agree that the glasses dont need to be so black you can't see the occupants but to do this at a roadblock I thought was being just a little ticky, when they could have gone up the road 10 miles and every other driver leaving those casino had 1 or 2 under their belt.

I know this doesn't pertain to inspection stickers, but hear's a gripe I have about law enforcement vehicles: My opinion is that no law enforcement vehicle should be alowed to exceed the posted speed limit unless they have some sort of warning lights on, either blue lights or wig wag headlights. I know that there are certain situations that they must remain secretive(like when on a bust), but this looking in your rearveiw mirror not seeing anyone for a mile or so back and two minutes later your vehicle is shaking from 90+ mph windshear. No siren, no lights, just blow-your-doors-off speed. I have confronted a friend of mine that's a state trooper about it. He said that it was more than likely official business. My Big 'Ol Harry Butt. I've seen seven or eight in a row going to Jackson when I knew that they had a district meeting and they were driving 85-90mph. I did get my friend to admit that the privalege was abused from time to time, even by him. I saw two Brandon PD cars speed past me one night on I-20, so I followed them at a distance. They pulled up at the Waffle House and went in for coffee. Makes you want to bring new meaning to "citizen's arrest". Oh, well, I guess they help us out enough to cancel out my gripe. Just felt like blowing off some steam.

I know they have a tuff job but they ought to get better PR training at school.WE have some young buck's in our area that can be rather rude,and will treat a speeder or expired tag like a murder'er and talk to you like a dog,and wonder why they can't get respect.

As for the thing about cops speeding, the way I look at it is, if you could do it, you would too. I admit that I never drive exactly the speed limit. I usually go a little over. 9 out of 10 cops will usually allow you 10 mph over. As long as they do that, I don't have a problem with them driving how they want.

As far as the big trucks go, they need to be like the ones in Europe! They have a lane of their own and their speed limit is 10 mph below the rest on the big roads(interstates/motorways). I get behind gravel trucks every day between Columbus and Starkville going to work and have more dings and spots in my windshield than I care to count! I usually have to speed up to 90 to get around them to keep my windshield from getting busted and then stay around 80 or 85 just to keep in front of the train!

not being specific about any 1 state trooper mind you, but my perception of them in general is as being smart booty, lazy, buzz heads who are all pumped up on testosterone. I have yet to see one who didn't think his poo poo had no odor. I witnessed a drunk lady go into the opposite lane of traffic, smack a fella, luckily it was a glancing blow, knocked his truck in a ditch. I followed her to the next store where she preceeded to buy MORE beer. We blocked her in, and had the store clerk call 911. Well, the car next to her left and she got out. I followed her to her house and went back to the scene of the wreck. I informed the state trooper that I had followed her to her house and could take him to it. He told me there was nothing he could do...Well $#!+!!!!! A drunk driver hit someone, we had 5 eye witnesses, could take him to the house where she was and "he couldn't do anything." I think he had better things to do (we saw him 20 minutes later writing a ticket....must not have met his monthly quota huh?)

TREOOPERS DO NOT MAKE THE LAW, THEY ONLY ENFORCE THEM.
