I had my dog at a trainer and he couldn't get him to go past being force broken. Does any know or maybe could reccommend someone to finish training my dog. He is about 1 year and 3 months old. I would really like to have him trained so I can use him this year.

Tammy Cook in Greenwood gets my vote ... she broke my hard headed female. It took forever to force fetch her - but it was well worth it.

Ditto, call some of these trainers and let them know what you are trying to achieve, and they will let you know in most cases if they can help.

Magnolia Retrievers is very good, but what was the reason for your trainer not being able to take your dog past being force broken?

Everytime I went to see how my dog was doing I was just not impressed with the way he was being trained. I understand that sometimes it takes a while to train a dog but the trainer I used had him for 6 Months and the only thing he will do is fetch and thats it. He does his obediance ok but I wasn't impressed at all after the fact. The trainer that I used was well known around this area but I've also heard that he will works with the dogs that have better blood lines than the dog that I have. I don't know if that is true but the few friends that I've talked to that have also used the same guy happened to their dog too. I just hate that I have $1200 in a dog and I can't even use him to get a duck for me.
I have heard that there is a guy in the Oxford area that is real good with dogs. I don't have his name or number but if anyone does I would greatly appreciate the help.

How much did this trainer charge a month if he was there six months and you only had 1200 in him?

From where you are located I would use Steve Vires, He is located in Sardis. For a hunting dog you won't find any better.

No offense, but if the PRO trainer is only charging $200.00 a month that was the first error. The one here in Jackson that $1,200.00 would have got you two months of O.B. I could use the ol saying you get what you pay for, but in my opinion at $600.00 a month sometimes you don't get what you pay for either.

He charges 300 a month but he only charged me 600 for the whole time he was there. That's one reason why I questioned him about what he done with him. He claimed that he worked with him 3 times a day but if someone worked with a dog that many times a day you would think that a dog that was on a shock collar would at least listen to him when he shocked him. My dog didn't listen to a thing he said. He was doing better for me before I carried him to this guy to get trained. I guess that's where you learn your lesson. I've never had the opportunity to own a dog with a good blood line and now that I do I think he's gonna be screwed up. I gonna do a little more research for a couple of weeks and try to get him to someone within the next month. I've been working with him a little and I've got him doing his obedience and fetching with him obeying without a collar right now. If I knew what to do I would train him myself because he is listening and obeying every command i give him real well.

I HIGHLY recommend Joel and Tina Soprano from Country Air Kennels. Although the kennel is a good drive away, they live in Kokomo, MS, it's well worth it. He has worked all over the country (when he was younger) and learned from the big time trainers. He can take a LP dog, like mine, or a dog with an incredible pedigree and get results from both (with those exceptions, of course)!
What I like the most about them is that although they do run all the tests and trials, they just love to train. you can PM me and I will give you their info.

Is that you Gerald. If not, you two should compare stories. I second the vote for steve vires, online labs. I have trained with him once and have been around him at several test. He is a great guy and does a good job with his dogs. If he can't train it he will let you know and not jerk you around. All dogs ARE NOT trainable and would want a trainer that would let me know quick what they thought.
