old Johnson DUCKTWIN 3HP MOTOR

COme on give me a min and just ask that oldtimer in the other room or give him a call on the phone,it want take you but a min. Can yall tell me how well these motors functioned.It is a 3 HP motor made back in the 50-60's. They may have been before most everyone in here's time but if you will ask somebody that might know for me. I want to know why they were called weedless,How they compare to todays motor in way of power and if they were dependable and how well they were built? I have found one in pristeen condition and just want to know if its worth what they are asking. It is a neet little motor from what I can tell self-contained, and already factory colored olive-drab, hell its even got some mayums painted on it from the factory.. Hep me!!! Prechiate IT!!!!!!

You can probably find one for sale at ebay. Type in "outboard motor" and you'll get a couple of hundred motors for sale. It helps determine the price and you might be able to hook up with someone who knows more about them.

The old three horse that my dad and I used was called the weedless. This had somwthing to do with the way the skeg was designed I guess since it did look kind of funny compared to most. Seems ours had a fuel sight glass made into the tank. It also was selfcontained. Ours was a good motor and gave very few problems but it eventually went the way of the not able to find parts. Before investing in this one you should consider the availabilty of all tune up parts; prop, and water pump and impellor parts. Impellors should be changed periodically; before they quit pumping. I have been hunting ducks over forty years so I am stretching my memory on this one. My current small craft motor is a 9.5h.p. "low boy", "fat back" Johnson short shaft with shallow drive of "74" vintage

feed call has about 10 3's and 4's; they're awesome. I "borrowed" one for the whole season last year. It was a 50's model 3. I'd say a fair price is 200.00 or below.
