Columbus Air Force Base jet crashes
The Associated Press
COLUMBUS — Two airmen aboard a Columbus Air Force Base training jet apparently ejected safely today before their plane crashed in rural Panola County, officials said.
Columbus Air Force Base said in a statement that two people were aboard the T-38C trainer at the time of the 1:30 p.m. accident. Officials in Panola County and state troopers said they understood the pilots had ejected but had no information on their conditions.
Billy Davis, a reporter with the weekly Panolian newspaper, went to the scene in extreme western Panola County and said he saw both pilots and neither appeared to be injured.
The base said the jet went down about 40 miles south of Memphis, Tenn., while the pilots were conducting a low-level training exercise.
Davis said the plane’s wreckage was located approximately 100 yards from Curtis Road. He said he did not see a fire.
The base said a board of officers will investigate the accident.

quite a few years ago (in the early 90's) a plane from Columbus Air Force Base crashed about 300yds behind our camp house just of Noxubee Refuge killing both the Pilot and instructor. We let the air force people stay at our camp with us for about 1.5 weeks while they investigated. About 100yds from where the plane crashed we had a Provine Helecopter from Greenwood crash 2 years ago but the pilot was ok. Sure am glad the 2 pilots are ok,
Life is to short to only fish on weekends
plane
heard that the snow geese were the cause.glad the pilots were ok.

Was it up on blocks? Maybe Bubba and Joe Bob bought it at a salvage yard and were going to "Fix 'er up!"Nitro Mag wrote:I grew up hunting choctaw bar on the river north of greenville, there was a trainer wrekage out in the middle of the woods....my old man is a pilot, he got the tail #'s and never could find any record of the crash
